Definition:-
Intercaste/religion marriage,
traditionally called mixed
marriage between partners
professing different religions.
Intercaste marriage typically
connotes a marriage in which
both partners remain adherents
to their distinct religion, and as
such it is distinct from concepts
of religious conversion, religious
assimilation, religious
disaffiliation, cultural
assimilation and apostasy.
Challenges:-
Inter-caste marriages are often crippled with unique
challenges that are actually associated with maintaining
barriers. Experts claim that it is a natural tendency of people
to create barriers in their minds and also around them.
The question is always about security, preservation and
protection. Society is nurtured in such a way so as to enclose
mankind within particular boundaries, limits and
observations, and right from when a baby is born he or she is
directed towards a particular way of living and abiding by
certain societal norms. So there are certain things which are
intrinsic to our childhood and that which is very difficult to
part with.
Indian attitude towards
inter-caste/religion marriages
 Indians had an orthodox mindset. They couldn't imagine
marriages beyond the same caste , community and
religion.
 Marriages should be in same community and caste .
 Who so ever dare for the inter-caste marriage face the
consequences in terms of violence, social boycott, family
boycott and death of the boys and girls ( honour killing).
 They fear of the social norms and social standing.
 Loss of reputation.
 The cultural difference- they believe that the couple will not be able
to settle down and religiously follow each other’s culture.
 They believe that the children born out of the inter-caste marriage
will not be perfect.
 Torture that the family and the couple has to face at the hands of
the society.

Kids Issues

It is proved that the chances
that an offspring will be
better and highest when the
mating species don’t relate to
each other. It is said that
there are certain chances
that the offspring will have
some health related problem
if married within same
species. So why take the risk?

According to us, there is
nothing wrong in Inter Caste
Marriages. According to us it
is very good as we come to
know about different
customs, rituals and many
more things. Worshiping
different god and following
something good from other
religion is not bad. According
to us if you love each other
and have good mutual
understanding, then you
must proceed for marriage.

Inter Caste marriages have
changed Indians mentality in lot
of ways. Now people don’t mind
and don’t interfere in other’s life
and decision. In old times, those
were mostly neighbours and
relatives who are against inter
caste marriages and due to their
influence, family members also
refuse inter caste marriage
proposals. But these days all of
them knows, that their is nothing
wrong with inter caste marriage
till there is mutual
understanding and love in
between couple that is going to
marry. So this has created
openness in society.
•
 Sometimes both of you
may face situation where
you feel that your caste or
religion is better or
superior than other. It may
then lead to arguments
and ultimately letting one
feel offended. Especially if
one of you is of lower caste.
 In same community or
caste we have a sense of
security but in new caste
there is always a fear both
families may not get along
that well.
•
Problem comes when your
kids grow up and then you
think in which caste will you
let them marry. These are
long term problems.
 The set up of Indian caste system makes it clear that
 “One is born into a caste and this cannot be undone even with the saat
pheras of sapt padi (Hindu marriage)”.
 Today, in Indian society the inter caste marriages are mostly the part of the
city culture. The rural parts of the country still have a long way to go.
 In villages ofIndia, people prefer their children to marry in the same caste
and community; else they disown them.
 Though there have been numerous incidents of the wife attempting suicide
or being murdered, this has still not evaded the theory of caste system.

Government Incentives:-
Government of Maharashtra & Punjab- Maharashtra
& Punjab government has decided to give Rs.50,000 to a
couple opting for Intercaste marriage on 2010.
Government of Uttar-Pradesh- They give cash
incentives and interest-free loan to couples . Such couples may
get interest free loan upto Rs.50,000 and a reward of 50,000
with medal and certificate.
Government of Haryana- Haryana government offer
50,000 each for Intercaste marriage.
Survey Report:-
Inter-caste marriage is mostly caused by love. It has
been increasing in India especially because of the
varieties of religious faiths and sects of the Hindu faith
there. In India, religions each have their own rules
relating to marriage, as rules exist for the conduct of
marriage itself. When two people from different social
groups marry, it is an inter-caste marriage. According
to a survey in 2014, about 5% of marriages are inter-
caste in India.
SAROJINI NAIDU
In 1912, She got
married at the age of 19
to Dr. Govindarajulu
Naidu, a non-Brahmin.
During the time when
inter-caste marriages
were not allowed.
Conclusion:-
 As responsible citizen we need to encourage human rights of
each individual.
 Human Rights not only includes basic rights, but it has a lot
more to it. One of the most important aspects is ‘Right to
Marriage’.
 Marriage is one of the Human Right. Then, why we as
individuals, society at large not able to digest and tolerate if a
person, irrespective of his or her religion, caste, creed, state,
language, nationality, gets married into a different religion,
caste and creed. The right to choice of life-partner is a matter of
one’s own decision. It is attached to the sentiments of a person.
 When God created men and women, he has not
assigned any caste on them. So, how can the human beings
divide God's created world into castes and communities
