Mango fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis) biology: Eggs are laid inside mango fruit, larvae
feed on pulp, pupae form inside fruit or in soil, and adults emerge to mate and restart
the cycle.
IPM practices:
Cultural Control
1. Collect and dispose infested fruits in a pit.
2. Summer ploughing to expose pupae.
Trapping
1.Prepare bait with methyl eugenol 1% solution + Malathion 0.1% (10ml/trap, 25
traps/ha).
Chemical Control
1. Bait spray: combine insecticide (fenthion, malathion, dimethoate, or carbaryl) with
molasses/jaggery (10g/l).
2. Spray fenthion 100 EC (2ml/l) or Malathion 50 EC (2ml/l) before fruit ripening.
Biological Control
1. Release natural enemies: Opius compensates and Spalangia philippines.
