Integers
• Class 7 Mathematics
• Understanding Integers and Their Operations
What are Integers?
• • Integers include:
• - Positive numbers (1, 2, 3,...)
• - Negative numbers (-1, -2, -3,...)
• - Zero (0)
• • They do not include fractions or decimals.
Representation on a Number Line
• • Integers are placed on a number line.
• • Zero is the central point.
• • Positive numbers are to the right.
• • Negative numbers are to the left.
Addition of Integers
• • Same signs: Add and keep the sign.
• Example: (-2) + (-3) = -5
• • Different signs: Subtract and keep the sign of
the larger number.
• Example: (-5) + 3 = -2
Subtraction of Integers
• • Change the sign of the number being
subtracted and add.
• Example: 5 - (-3) = 5 + 3 = 8
• Example: (-4) - 2 = -4 + (-2) = -6
Multiplication of Integers
• • Same signs: Positive result
• Example: (-2) × (-3) = 6
• • Different signs: Negative result
• Example: (-4) × 3 = -12
Division of Integers
• • Same signs: Positive result
• Example: (-8) ÷ (-2) = 4
• • Different signs: Negative result
• Example: 9 ÷ (-3) = -3
Summary
• • Integers include positive, negative numbers
and zero.
• • Learn rules for operations.
• • Use number lines to visualize integer
operations.
• • Practice makes perfect!
