Mise-en-scene refers to everything visible within the frame of a film, including actors, lighting, sets, props, costumes, and camerawork. In cinema, mise-en-scene means placing elements on the screen. The director is responsible for deciding what elements to include and how to arrange them. The Incredible Hulk movie uses various elements of mise-en-scene, including props like guns and helicopters used against the Hulk, changing lighting and color to convey mood, and visual effects to transform the main character Bruce Banner into the green-skinned Hulk.
Proposal

Question 5
Summer Jones created a horror film and sought feedback from her target audience of teenagers and young adults. Niamh, age 16, said the lighting created a sense of mystery and the quick cuts at the beginning caught her attention. Luke, age 19, also said the lighting and titles identified the horror genre but felt the quick cuts lasted too long at the beginning before the storyline started. Based on this feedback, Summer Jones agrees the lighting effectively set the horror tone but thinks removing some quick cuts and adding longer narrative shots would improve audience engagement.

Inspirational and creative opening scene

The use of sound effects to create tension, and the change of sounds whilst different things occur without the scene further provides a sense of creativity. The lighting and setting on this opening scene is also quite inspirational to me as I believe that it really portrays the theme of horror straight away; something which I wish to occur in my own opening scene.

The use of sound and lighting is also used within this opening scene in order to try and set the scene of the horror. Although the scene is only short, a lot of information is given to the audience, telling them basically what the storyline of the whole film is going to be. This shows that It is a very good and informative opening scene which hopefully will be shown within my film.

The director uses tension building music and dark lighting to create a strange feeling immediately. The use of children and pot dolls creates a very disturbing feel to the film straight away. It also makes the viewer quite scared initially, due to the close up shots of pot dolls, and the use of screams and distant shouting. The fact that the director does not show what the young girls are looking at makes the viewer confused yet eager to find out what it is; keeping the viewer hooked.
