2. Role of education to curb social evils like -
Corruption, Terrorism, Antinational activities
Social evils are those problems which are harmful to
society, which affects the social processes and the public
negatively. Corruption, Terrorism, antinational activities,
violence against women, drug abuse and alcoholism etc are
some of the social evils in our society. Education plays an
important role in the evolution of a nation. Education helps us
understand what society is and what are responsibilities in
that society. Education also adds up to the economic growth
of a country. Upliftment in the human mind and desired social
changes in the society can be brought by education only. It
helps to blind a better society and in turn, a better nation by
bringing us out of the darkness of ignorance and enlighting us
with knowledge.
2.corruption
Corruption may be defined as the Misuse of the public office for
one's own advantage or the purpose of any other illegal benefits by a
public servant.Every person has an dignity and some fundamental
rights corruption affect the fundamental rights of people value based
education is the only effective way to cure this social evil. with the
help of education we can reduce corruption .

3. • The emergence of political elite who believe in interest oriented
rather than nation oriented programmes and policies.
• Economic policy of the government most of the recent scandals
have been in areas where either purchase, policies or prices are
controlled by the government.
• Corruption is caused by scarcity.
Role of education in curbing corruption
Value based education is the only effective way to cure
social evils. With the help of education we can reduce
corruption. according to a survey conducted by India today the
list corrupt state in India is Kerala .The reason for this is obvious
Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India. Character education
involves teaching basic human values. These include honesty
kindness ,generosity,Courage, freedom,equality and respect.
Character education should be an integral part of every aspect of
schooling and learning as it provides long term solution to moral
ethical. Academic issue in society problem solving ,decision
making and conflict resolution are also important part of
developing good mortal character. The importance and the
influence of many teachers in shoping characters or in fighting
corruption is well known.
2.Terrorism
Terrorism is the systematic assault of an individual group or
state against human souls, public or private funds and properties
by intimidation, harming,terror or killing the othes unlawfully. It
is a tool or a means to achieve Political goals,weather Internal or

4. outside the state, to force governments to change their
decisions and policies. Terrorism is the unlawful Use of force or
violence against person or property to intimidate or correct a
government.
Causes of Terrorism
Some say that poverty, unemployment, injustice and
corruption In the society giveRice to terrorism. Poverty does not
cause terrorism and prosperity does not cure it.Terrorism is due
to lack of proper education.Today, the proponents of hate are
using the Internet to spread hate and violence.There are
hundreds of Internet sites providing terrorist manuals,
encyclopedia of violence, techniques of bomb making etc.
The primary causes of terrorism and insurgency in India are
based on political, religious, ethnic, ideological, identity driven,
linguistic or socio-economic grievances.
Role of education in curbing Terrorism
Terrorism is due to lack of proper education.If people are given
education at free of cost or even minimizing the costs the trend
of tilting towards extremism and terrorism can be reduced.The
governments should open more and more schools for children
and education of good quality should be made available for
everyone as it is necessary to make world safe from current and
future terrorism. The impact on a school child of educating them
and exposing them to the concept of diversity, difference and
mutual respect cannot be underestimated. Educationalist and
planners must rethink the role and the design of our education

5. system there is a need to introduce a comparative study of all
religions in our schools and colleges.
3.Anti-nationalism
Nationalism is a belief or political ideology that involves an
individual identifying with, or becoming attached to, one's
nation. Narrow minded nationalism may lead to chauvinism,
conflict and war. Anti-nationalism denotes the sentiments
associated with an opposition to nationalism. Some anti-
nationalism nationalist are humanitarians or humanist who
pursue an idealist view of world community, and self-identity as
world citizens. They reject chauvinism, jingoism and militarism,
and want humans to live in peace rather than perpetual conflict.
Role of education in curbing anti-nationalism
Teachers have a significant role in developing international
understanding and world peace. It must be understood that
great teachers do not belong to any place or time. Consider the
case of Jesus Christ, Socrates, Tagore, Swami vivekananda and a
host if others. They were great teachers of profound wisdom.
They do not belong to particular people or time. Teachers must
help their students understood man and cultivate the right
attitude and values and outlook so that self displine and
international understanding can be development.
Education is only effective tool that can be used to curb
anti-nationalism and develop nationalism and internationalism.

6. In addition to the usual class work discussions and debate etc
may also be arranged to educate the learners on these topic.
