Managing heat generated by electronics is a challenge for aerospace designers. The Air Force provided follow-on funding to ADA Technologies under an SBIR effort to identify improved heat conduction and rejection methods. ADA is developing a thermal interface material using coated carbon nanotubes to enhance thermal conductivity by controlling electron transport. Initial tests showed a 200% increase in thermal performance over baseline materials. The funding will further mature the technology for use in aircraft electronics to enable higher power capabilities and improve reliability.
