2. THE IDEA
20XX
Genre: Slasher
Synopsys: Two best friends find themselves being torn apart with their crush on a boy but
are brought back together by one of the girls need for revenge
Narrative: The first scene is the school halls covered in missing posters and exposition on
how one of the girls is missing which would be done using a voice over.
There is a time jump to three months prior. The film opening revolves around two teenage
girls who are best friends. We get exposition on one of the girls being popular (Grace) and
the other girl being scrawny and the stereotypical nerd (Cassie). The viewer finds out about
the popular girl dating the popular boy. Next scene is the popular girl being stalked as she
walks home and eventually killed. There is a time jump three months forward. The popular
girl returns into the school like nothing ever happened.
3. COMPARABLE TO EXISTING FILMS LIKE…
JENNIFER’S BODY (2009)
Director: Karyn Kusama
Genre: dark comedy horror film
Budget: $16m
Age rating: 18+
The film stars Megan Fox who portrays
a demonically possessed high school girl who
kills her male classmates, with her best friend
,acted by Amanda Seyfried, striving to stop her.
Her motivation for murder is to sustain her life
and nourish her strength, she seduced boys on
the school campus in order to feed on their
flesh and blood.
Just like in Jennifer’s Body I would use the
stereotypes of the popular girl and the classic
nerd outsider. I would also have the
geek/outsider as protagonist.
I liked how the used a lot of comic relief lines
that appeal to a teenage audience. I would like
to attempt that in my opening.
4. COMPARABLE TO EXISTING FILMS LIKE…
THE CRAFT(1996)
Director: Andrew Fleming
Genre: teen supernatural horror film
Budget: $15m
Age rating: 15+
Sarah Bailey, a beautiful but troubled teenage
girl with unusual abilities, moved to a new town.
At her new school, she forms a friendship with a
group of girls who are and are rumoured to
be witches. The girls convince Sarah she
complete their coven. The spells the girls cast
together eventually lead to negative
consequences.
I like the portrayal of the supernatural in this
film. I also like how the weather was used to
directly convey the character’s mood. I would
like to attempt that through lighting.
5. COMPARABLE TO EXISTING FILMS LIKE…
SCREAM (1996)
Director: Wes Craven
Genre: slasher
Budget: $15m
Age rating: 18+
High school student Casey Becker is home alone when she
receives a phone call from an unknown person, during which they
discuss horror films, this provides foreshadowing for the further
action in the film. The caller turns sadistic. Casey attempts to
escape but is cornered by a person wearing a black robe and a
ghost mask, who kills her.
As Sidney Prescott struggles with the first anniversary of her
mother’s murder, The teenage girl is terrorized by a new killer, who
targets the girl and her friends by using horror films as part of a
deadly game.
Teenagers throw a party to celebrate the school's closure. The
teens are tormented by the killer and are faced with a dramatic plot
twist.
I would like to explore the idea of a final girl, just like scream, and
how I could present it. I also liked how the actors are aware of real-
world horror films and satirize cliches of slashers.
6. LOCATIONS
• School corridor
• School grounds
• Sidewalk of a residential street
• The girl’s bedroom

7. SHOTS
• To create suspense I would want to use
the shot used in many films from inside
the closet . It has been used in
Halloween as a way to create suspense
and in Hocus Pocus for comic relief. I
would want to do this by filming from
inside a locker rather than closet.
20XX PRESENTATION TITLE 7
• A tracking shot is used very
effectively in horror films to make
out a character is being followed or
watched. For the stalking scene this
shot would be perfect.
9. COSTUMES
Grace will be portrayed as the popular, girly and provocative character. To show this I would
want her wearing bright colours, tightly fitted clothes, especially pink, lots of jewelry and
skirts. A nice detail would be a matching friendship necklace to Cassie. Her look will be very
pristine to highlight the importance her looks play in her life. I would want her outfit in the
first scene to be a lot more conservative to show her change in character after she comes
back.
Cassie, on the other hand, will have muted, baggy and awkwardly fitted clothes to juxtapose
her counterpart. To reinforce the stereotype of a nerd she would have curly hair, glasses and
no makeup.
The love interest should be wearing very basic, standard clothes that will tell us that he isn’t
an important character and leave all the focus on the girls.
