OVERVIEW OF VISITED AYURVEDIC INDUSTRY
The Ayurvedic industry has witnessed significant growth and interest
globally due to the increasing demand for natural and holistic healthcare
solutions. Here’s an overview of key aspects of the visited Ayurvedic
industry:
1. History and Tradition: Ayurveda, originating from ancient India, is one of the oldest holistic
healing systems in the world. It emphasizes the balance between mind, body, and spirit for overall
wellness.
2. Growing Global Market: Over the past few decades, Ayurveda has gained popularity
worldwide, with consumers seeking alternatives to conventional medicine and embracing natural
remedies.
3. Diverse Product Range: The Ayurvedic industry offers a wide range of products, including
herbal supplements, oils, powders, teas, skincare, and hair care products. These products often
contain natural ingredients like herbs, minerals, and essential oils.

treating symptoms. It considers individual constitution (dosha), lifestyle, diet, and mental well-
being in diagnosis and treatment.

production, labeling, and marketing of Ayurvedic products to ensure safety and efficacy.
Compliance with quality standards is crucial for building consumer trust.
6. Integration with Modern Medicine: In some regions, there’s a trend toward integrating
Ayurvedic practices with conventional medicine. This integration, known as integrative or
complementary medicine, aims to provide comprehensive healthcare options to patients.
7. Research and Development: There’s ongoing research into the efficacy and safety of
Ayurvedic treatments, as well as efforts to modernize traditional formulations and practices.
Scientific validation helps in gaining wider acceptance and recognition.
8. Cultural Preservation: Efforts are being made to preserve the traditional knowledge and
practices of Ayurveda, including the cultivation of medicinal herbs, documentation of ancient
texts, and promotion of traditional treatment methods.
9. Challenges and Controversies: Despite its popularity, the Ayurvedic industry faces
challenges such as standardization of products, lack of scientific evidence for some treatments,
and concerns about adulteration and false claims.

AYURVEDIC MEDICINE
According to the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and
Homeopathy (AYUSH), “Ayurveda” is made up of two words- Ayuhand Veda. Ayuh
means life and Veda means knowledge or science. Thus “Ayurveda” intotality means
‘Science of life’. It incorporates all aspects of life whether physical, psychological,
spiritual or social.
In India, the practice of Ayurveda as a system of medicine has been recognized under the
Indian Medicine Central Council (IMCC) Act 1976 education of Ayurveda is regulated
by a statutory body known as Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and the Drugs
& Cosmetics Act 1948 regulates manufacturing and sales of Ayurveda drugs.
Ayurveda is considered by many scientists to be the oldest healing science. In Sanskrit,
Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more
than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing”. Ayurveda translates
into knowledge (Veda) of life (Ayur) and is one of the oldest and still widely practiced
medical systems in the Indian subcontinent. The concept of Ayurvedic medicine is to
promote health, rather than to fight disease, and Ayurveda in daily life aims at
maintaining harmony between nature and the “individual” to ensure optimal health.

EQUIPMENTS USED IN PREPARATION OF AYURVEDIC MEDICINES
Machines Used In Ayurvedic/Herbal Medicine Manufacturing Unlike convectional
pharmaceutical products whose processes can be standardized, herbal medicine
production varies from product to product and involves processes of extracting chemicals
from plant material and converting plant or other natural material to forms that can be
utilized for treatment purposes. Plant materials are often sourced from different
geographical and commercial sources. Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing processes
include extraction, fractionation, purification, concentration, mixing and blending, tablet
making, coating, bottle filling, packaging and wrapping and many more depending on the
nature of product. Some of the machines used in ayurvedic products manufacturing
include
 Motorized Pills Cutting Machine
It consists of sets of two rollers with cut groove spaces for a suitable size of pills to be
prepared. It is motorized operated with 0.5 HP, single-phase motor and belt. The unit is
with one set of rollers of the desired size of pills 4 to 12 mm.

 Coating Pan
Coating Pan Machine is consists of an Ellipsoidal pan mounted on a suitable stand
and driven by a motor through the right gearbox. The pan is made out of SS 316 and
has welded baffles in it. This baffle helps in the tumbling of the tablets/material into
the pan while rotating. It supplies a hot air blower and the coating pan with heater
assembly and a flexible SS pipe, which goes into the pan to dry the tablets/material
into the pan after coating. A Control panel helps provide a Starter or variable speed
drive, Digital temp controller for controlling temperature.

 MassMixer
The mass mixer consists of a rigid fabricated structure motor, gear box, mixing drum,
stirrer, and tilting device. A specially designed self-adjusting sealing arrangement of
unique design helps ensure that no black particle enters the mixing drum. The mixing
process material can be monitored through acrylic dust cover and its controls dusting and
contaminations. The tilting device quickly offers the unloading of the material and easy
cleaning of the mixing drum.

modern rapid extraction machine can use a fraction of the energy of traditional
methods while extracting active compounds exceptionally quickly, improving the
efficiency and throughput of your production.

CONCLUSION
Industrial visits are slowly becoming an integral part of the education system. Educators
are now realising the importance of industrial visits for students. Industrial visits offer
numerous benefits to Pharmacy students. Firstly, they provide practical exposure to
pharmaceutical processes and technologies, bridging the gap between theory and real-
world applications. Students gain insights into Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP),
quality control, and regulatory compliance, enhancing their understanding of drug
production. Interactions with industry professionals foster networking and career
opportunities. Additionally, witnessing the latest advancements in pharmaceutical
research and development inspires innovation and critical thinking. Overall, industrial
visits enrich students’ knowledge, skillset, and confidence, preparing them for successful
careers in the pharmaceutical industry while staying updated with industry trends and
practices.

8 | Pa g e AYURVEDIC MEDICINE According to the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), “Ayurveda” is made up of two words- Ayuhand Veda. Ayuh means life and Veda means knowledge or science. Thus “Ayurveda” intotality means ‘Science of life’. It incorporates all aspects of life whether physical, psychological, spiritual or social. In India, the practice of Ayurveda as a system of medicine has been recognized under the Indian Medicine Central Council (IMCC) Act 1976 education of Ayurveda is regulated by a statutory body known as Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and the Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1948 regulates manufacturing and sales of Ayurveda drugs. Ayurveda is considered by many scientists to be the oldest healing science. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing”. Ayurveda translates into knowledge (Veda) of life (Ayur) and is one of the oldest and still widely practiced medical systems in the Indian subcontinent. The concept of Ayurvedic medicine is to promote health, rather than to fight disease, and Ayurveda in daily life aims at maintaining harmony between nature and the “individual” to ensure optimal health.
