Fuel Flow Indicator
Fuel flow meter are used with fuels to show the amount of fuel in
gallon or pound per hour.
The fuel flow indicator system consists of a fuel flow transmitter
located in the fuel line leading from the tank to the engine and
indicator located on the instrument panel.
Oxygen Cylinder
An oxygen tank is an oxygen storage vessel for oxygen, which is
either held under pressure in gas cylinders or as liquid oxygen in a
cryogenic storage tank.
Breathing oxygen is delivered from the storage tank to the users
by use of the oxygen mask.
Materials for oxygen cylinder:
1.Steel (DC-10)
2.Composite Fiber (Boeing -777)
Fire extinguisher Agents
Fire extinguishing agents are those chemicals that are injected
into a compartment or area to extinguish a fire.
These agents work by either displacing the oxygen or chemically
combining the oxygen to prevent combustion.
Some common fire extinguisher Are:
1. CO2
2.Freon ( A Chlorinated Hydrocadbon)
3. Halon 1301 ( Monobromotrifluoromethane, CF3Br)
Water (H2O) is also used as Fire extinguisher in aircraft.

TYPES OF REPAIRS
• The type of repair to be made will depend on the
materials, tools, amount of time available,
accessibility to the damaged area, and maintenance
level. The types of repair are permanent, temporary,
and one-time flight (ferry).
• Permanent repair is one that restores the strength of
the repaired structure equal to or greater than its
original strength and satisfies aerodynamic, thermal,
and interchangeability requirements, This ensures the
designed capabilities of the aircraft.
TYPES OF REPAIRS
• Temporary repair restores the load-carrying ability of the structure
but is not aerodynamically smooth or able to satisfy
interchangeability requirements. This repair should be replaced by
a permanent type as soon as possible in order for the aircraft to be
restored to its normal condition.
• One-time flight repair restores a limited load-carrying ability to the
damaged structure in order to fly the aircraft to a depot
maintenance activity for a permanent repair. When this type of
repair is made, the aircraft cockpit should be placarded to limit the
performance of the aircraft.
MACHINES & TOOLS USED
Shearing Machine
• Sheet metal forming machine that
used to cut sheet metal
• Hydraulically powered
• It works by first clamping the material
with a ram
• A moving blade then comes down
across a fixed blade to shear the
material
Grinding Machine
• A type of machining using an abrasive
wheel as the cutting tool
MACHINES & TOOLS USED
Rolling Machine
• Roll different kind of metal sheet into
a round or conical shape
Shrinking & Stretching Tools
• Shrinking reduces surface area by
thickening the sheet metal
• Stretching increases the surface area
and causes it to become thinner.
MACHINES & TOOLS USED
Tube Bending Machine
• Round, rectangular or square tube
• Factors involved in the tube bending process is
the wall thickness, tooling and lubricants
needed by the pipe and tube bender to best
shape the material.
Cable Swaging Machine
• Attach fittings to pipes or cables
• Parts loosely fit together, and a mechanical
or hydraulic tool compresses and conforms
the fitting, creating a permanent joint.
MACHINES & TOOLS USED
Lathe Machine
• Rotates the workpiece on its axis to
perform various operations such as
cutting, sanding, knurling with tools that
are applied to the workpiece to create an
object which has symmetry about an axis
of rotation.
Drilling Machine
• Motor driven device, fitted with an end
cutting tool that is rotated with sufficient
power either to create a hole
in a solid material.
MACHINES & TOOLS USED
Rivet Guns
• Also known as a pneumatic
hammer, is a type of tool used to
drive rivets.
Hand cutting machine
Paint Shop
Paint, or more specifically its overall color and application,
is usually the first impression that is transmitted to someone
when they look at an aircraft for the first time. Paint makes
a statement about the aircraft the person who owns or
operates it.The paint scheme may reflect the owner’s ideas
and color preferences for an amateur-built aircraft project,
or it may be colors and identification for the recognition of
a corporate or air carrier aircraft.
Paint Shop:
Paint is more than aesthetics;
-it affects the weight of the aircraft and protects the integrity
of the airframe. The topcoat finish is applied to protect the
exposed surfaces from corrosion and deterioration.
-a properly painted aircraft is easier to clean and maintain
because the exposed surfaces are more resistant to corrosion
and dirt, and oil does not adhere as readily to the surface.
Finishing Materials :
A wide variety of materials are used in aircraft finishing. Some
of the more common materials:
-Acetone
-Alcohol
-Benzene
-Methyl Ethyl Ketone
-Linseed Oil
Primers:
The importance of primers in finishing and protection is
generally misunderstood and underestimated because it is
invisible after the topcoat finish is applied. A primer is the
foundation of the finish.
Its role is to
-bond to the surface
-inhibit corrosion of metal
- provide an anchor point for the finish coats
Some of the various primer types are :
-Wash Primers
-Red Iron Oxide
-Gray Enamel Undercoat
-Urethane
Preparation:
-Surfaces
-Primer and Paint
-Adjusting the Spray Pattern
-Applying the Finish
That’s how the whole process of painting is done.
Industrial Tools Shop
 The aviation maintenance technician spends a major portion of each day
using a wide variety of hand tools to accomplish maintenance tasks. Our
presentation contains an overview of some of the hand tools an aviation
maintenance technician can expect to use. An aviation maintenance
technician encounters many special tools as their experience widens; large
transport category aircraft have different maintenance tasks from those of a
light airplane, and special hand tools are often required when working on
complex aircraft.
 This presentation outline the basic knowledge required in using the most
common hand tools used in aircraft repair and maintenance work. Sound
knowledge is required of these basic rules. The use of tools may vary, but
good practices for safety, care, and storage of tools remain the same.
It is called Engineering heart
Two types of tools
 General tools & special tools
Screwdrivers:
1. Used for tightening or loosening screws or screw-head bolts
2. Use a screwdriver with care on the aircraft because the simple
act of slipping off the head of a screw can deeply scratch the
aluminum or magnesium skin, possibly resulting later in
corrosion
Flat screwdriver:
Philips screwdriver:
Hammers and mallets:
We should always choose the hammer appropriate for the job to avoid damaging
the work or the hammer itself.
Metal head hammer:
These are sized according to the weight of the head without the handle.
Soft faced hammer and mallet:
These have striking surfaces made of: wood, brass, lead, rawhide, hard rubber,
or plastic.
Pliers
 Pliers are a hand tool used to hold objects firmly.
Monkey Pliers
Crimping plier:
Pipe wrench
 A pipe wrench is a type of adjustable wrench that is used for gripping and
tightening or loosening rounded metal objects, like rods, bolt, or pipes.
Pipe Wrench
Spanner
 A spanner is a tool used to provide grip and mechanical advantage in applying
torque to turn objects—usually rotary fasteners, such as nuts and bolts—or
keep them from turning.
Open end Spanner
Adjustable spanner
