It summarizes each game, including No Man's Sky (a procedurally generated space exploration game), Cuphead (a 1930s cartoon-inspired action platformer), The Witness (a 3D puzzle game from the creator of Braid), Volume (a stealth game inspired by Robin Hood), Broken Age Act 2 (the continuation of the critically acclaimed point-and-click adventure game), and Firewatch (a story-driven first person game about being a forest fire lookout).
2. 2015 has just begun, the year is incredibly young. Now seemed the
perfect time to race ahead, look into the future and let you all know
about the most excited games to see covered on the site in 2015.
It's no secret that the most interesting video games of the last few years
have come out of the indie games community. In 2014, we've seen
explosive successes. But what will be the next?
These are the games that you should be looking out for too. Here we
go, here’s Top 6 Most Anticipated Indie Games that are expected to
release in 2015.
4. Developer: Hello Games
Publisher: Hello Games
Platform: PS4, PC
No Man’s Sky is the one game on this list that I am more excited to see
developed than I am excited to play. This incredibly ambitious title is
probably the most anticipated indie game for the industry, but I just
don’t know what to think yet. What will we do in that vast universe,
what will we see, and will it be any fun? I can’t wait to see how this
game turns out.
6. Developer: Studio MDHR
Publisher: Studio MDHR
Platform: Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Cuphead is an action-platformer inspired by 1930’s cartoons, so it will
be one of those incredibly divisive games that will either tickle your
fancy or turn you off because of its incredibly unique art style. I, for
one, am sincerely grateful that this developer was willing to take a
risk, and I cannot wait to bask in all its creative goodness.
8. Developer: Jonathan Blow
Designer: Jonathan Blow
Platforms: PlayStation 4, iOS, Microsoft Windows
The Witness is Braid Creator Jonathan Blow’s upcoming 3D world
exploration puzzle game. It’s all about taking things slowly,
exploring a world and chipping away at a set of puzzles that will
allow you to continue to explore the world. Braid has incredibly
intelligent puzzle design and what we have seen from The Witness
so far suggests it’ll be very similar. Personally, I don’t even mind if
every get through all the puzzles, that world looks like a really nice
place to slowly explore.
10. Developer: Mike Bithell
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows
Thankfully moving beyond rectangles... as mindblowing as they were;
Volume is based on one of my kids' various mythical heroes: Robin Hood
or rather, a Mister Robert of Locksley, Nottinghamshire.
Another 3rd person-er on the list, this game features labyrinths, stealth
design and nothing too reminiscent of Monaco: What's Yours Is
Mine given the top-down 3D visual persepctives offered.
And especially because we don't parlons française and the hilarious
voices of the legendary Charlie McDonnell and Danny Wallace feature
this time round.
12. Developers: Double Fine Productions
Publisher: Double Fine Production
Platform: Android, iOS, Playstation 4, Windows
When Broken Age: Act 1 released in early 2014 I was super impressed
with it’s narrative. From a pair of heroic protagonists who defied the
expected plot arcs most creators would have set them to n ending
that turned the whole first act on it’s head, Broken Age got off to a
spectacular start.
Broken Age: Act 2 has a lot to live up to. The first act ended on such
an amazing cliff hanger that the second act may have a hard time
ending in such a satisfying manner. Regardless, I am incredibly
excited to see the continuation of such a fascinating and well
handled plot.
14. Developer: Campo Santo
Publisher: Campo Santo and Panic Inc.
Platform: Play station 4, Android
Firewatch is the debut effort from the folks at Campo Santo, a studio
comprised of some of the best minds from Telltale, Klei, and the
revered Idle Thumbs podcast, among others. This story-based game
takes place along an open forest, in which main character Henry
keeps watch for forest fires during a particularly dry summer.
Firewatch is a single-player first-person video game where you, as a
man named Henry, explore the Wyoming wilderness after taking a
summer job as a fire lookout. What is supposed to be a peaceful
respite from your complicated life takes a turn when you start to
question some of the things that are happening to you.
