14. Dhabriya Plywood's policy of no
compromise with the quality of the
product has set a standard in the uPVC
market.
Dedicated towards Protecting the
Environment
With the inspiration of Lt. Prof. S.S.
Dhabriya who was an
environmentalist and remote sensing
expert, his son, CMD Mr. Digvijay
Dhabriya has taken 'SAVE TREES' as
a mission of life. To achieve the same
and to give shape to his father's
teaching, he developed and started
manufacturing polymer-based wood
substitute products.
Dhabriya Polywood Limited's core
value is to make environment friendly,
sustainable, and zero wood houses to
bring about ecological balance and
save natural resources. The brand name
'Polywood' has been associated with
wood-substitute products with a
mission to SAVE TREES. The company
saves nearly 7 lakh trees a year; for the
last 27 years, it has been an undeniable
part of the āsave Treesā campaign by
bringing to the minds of people the use
of uPVC and PVC proļ¬les which was
only conļ¬ned to European Countries
earlier.
Taking on Challenges Conļ¬dently
In its initial days, the company had to
face the major challenge of spreading
awareness about uPVC windows as a
product among its target market. At
that time, the competition was low and
the market size was also small.
However, over time, the world's
leading brands have come to India in
the last 10-15 years resulting in major
competition in the market. Moreover,
the prices have also reduced by almost
50%. Hence, Dhabriya Plywood is now
struggling mainly to keep an edge over
its competitors by providing value-
added solutions with quality services.
The team believes that to stand tall in
the market, the only way is to provide
high-quality products at a competitive
price.
Confronting the Pandemic with a
Game Face
Team Dhabriya Plywood states that the
pandemic aļ¬ected the business in the
same manner as most others in the
construction and related industries.
Firstly, because of a sudden reduction
in the operations of the real estate
industry in general, new demand for
windows and doors has been
compromised. Secondly, labour
migration, transportation, and
manpower-related problems due to
lockdown and the panic created by the
pandemic have introduced various
challenges in delivering the required
level of services to the clients. The
company authorities state that the
situation is now getting from bad to
worse with the arrival of the second
wave of the pandemic and the
economy is also getting disrupted
owing to the same.

Advice for the Young Entrepreneurs
Mr. Digvijay advises the emerging
entrepreneurs who aspire to enter the
uPVC Window and Door Solutions
space to understand that it is a big
space, where one may enter at various
levels such as a proļ¬le manufacturer, a
window fabricator, or dealer. He states
that the Indian demography makes it a
huge market for u-PVC doors and
Windows.
He states, āBased on their resources,
whichever level one may choose to
enter this market, one must always
remember that it is the level of overall
services that determines getting
repeated clients and not just reduction
in product quality and price''.
Towards an Interesting Future
Marching ahead, Dhabriya Polywood
Limited plans on expanding its
services to new territories and to start a
dealership or franchise model to be
able to cater better to the retail market.
The company aims to become the
biggest window fabrication facility and
cover the entire north and south region.
It further aims to launch various new
types of windows and to distribute
UPVC window proļ¬les to window
fabricators pan India.
In 2021, Dhabriya Polywood intends to
start a new 75000sq. ft. production
plant in Bengaluru. In the same year, it
will also initiate its uPVC window
proļ¬les facility in Bengaluru. The
company further has another
aluminium fabrication facility project
in the pipeline. The authority believes
that all these initiatives will help the
company to scale up.
19. International Industry Insights
The global uPVC windows and doors solutions
space has witnessed major transformations over
the years. It has experienced its fair share of ups
and downs throughout this time span. From 2015 to
2019, the market witnessed a healthy growth. However,
with the rise of the global pandemic, coronavirus, the
global economy has been badly aļ¬ected. Hence, it is
forecasted that the global UPVC market will also
experience a decrease. Nevertheless, it is expected that
the pandemic will be controlled by the end of 2021. As a
result, we can hope that the global uPVC window market
size will reach million USD in 2025, with a CAGR
between 2021 and 2025.
The Global Impact of Coronavirus in the uPVC
Industry
The beginning of 2021 witnessed the widespread of
coronavirus across the world, with millions of people
getting infected by the disease globally. Many countries
across the world have also implemented strict regulations
and lockdowns to control the spread of this virus. Other
than the medical equipment, medical products, and life
support equipment industry, most industries, including
the uPVC industry have been badly impacted by the
pandemic.

Advantages of uPVC Products
uPVC possesses a variety of hard and inļ¬exible
characteristics, owing to which it is also called rigid PVC.
This material has high preference because it is highly
resistant to chemicals, water, corrosive environments, and
weather. uPVC can also act as a framing material, wherein,
it provides excellent quality, does not require much
maintenance, and also provides various color options.
uPVC also oļ¬ers various beneļ¬ts such as insulation against
rain, recyclability, UV protection, sound insulation,
resistance to salt water and heavy impacts, and various
other commercial advantages. No additive material is added
to unplasticized PVC during production, just like normal
PVC. Accordingly, it does not require much energy input
during production.
uPVC has been widely developed and used in windows,
doors, building material, shutters, and automobile body
parts. These products are recyclable and environment
friendly, owing to which they are more preferred in the
construction industry. Customers can reap the beneļ¬ts of its
various features such as longevity; ļ¬re, wind, and moisture
resistance; aesthetics; and much more. Users can customize
them as per their requirements. It is a material-grade
product with additional features such as low thermal
conductivity and energy savings by 30-35%.
uPVC also prevents the process of condensation, which, in
turn, prevents thermal bridging. This is a material grade
which never ļ¬akes, fades, pits, peels, rusts, or corrodes.
However, customers should check the seal of maintenance
and light soapy wash. uPVC has low cost and has other
properties such as high stiļ¬ness, aesthetic in nature, ļ¬ame
retardant, and so on. uPVC is also suitable for transparent
applications. Furthermore, it is FDA compliant because the
residue of vinyl chloride gets restricted and suitable for
transparent applications. If compared to PVC, uPVC oļ¬ers
better chemical resistance.
uPVC provides better vapor barrier properties, and it can
also be used for good electrical insulation. This material can
also be used in place of wood in construction, as it is
similar to that of the double-glazed window frames and
window sills. uPVC is renowned for its versatility and can
be manufactured in diļ¬erent colors, or it can also be
designed to look like other materials.
The uPVC windows and doors solutions market is growing
steadily in spite of various challenges imposed by serious
situations such as the covid-19 pandemic. This space is
enhancing its eļ¬ciency by adopting cutting-edge
technology, while delivering excellent products and
services to the clients.

26. O
ver the last 15 years, India has seen unprecedented
expansion in the real estate market. More
urbanisation, smart city projects, and changing
lifestyles owing to the expanding middle class are just a few
of the causes driving the development of innovative
building technologies and materials. As a substitute for
other traditional materials, uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl
chloride) is a low maintenance but eļ¬cient material in the
manufacture of windows and doors.
Because of the numerous advantages that uPVC provides,
we have witnessed an increase in the demand for uPVC
windows and doors in recent years. The customer is now
well-aware that uPVC is an excellent material for windows
and doors since it works well in a variety of weather
situations. uPVC windows and doors oļ¬er eļ¬ective thermal
insulation and contribute to energy conservation.
Furthermore, with correctly manufactured windows and
installations, uPVC windows provide excellent sound

28. insulation. uPVC windows and doors are available in a
variety of forms and styles to complement any modern
architecture and may be used in any type of structure,
including villas, high-rise apartments, businesses, hotels,
and hospitals.
They are also available in a variety of colours, which may
add value to your home's interiors/exteriors. Surprisingly,
because of the uPVC compound characteristics, you do not
have to be concerned about durability - window and door
proļ¬les are termite resistant and essentially last forever.
Because it does not require painting or care, uPVC is seen
as a wise investment and a great purchasing option. They do
not rot, bend, or corrode, and the colour of the proļ¬le
remains constant in all-weather/climate circumstances,
whether summer, winter, or monsoon. Even in tropical and
salty coastal conditions, these window and door solutions
are known to be successful. Because there is no wood in
uPVC windows and doors, they are ecologically benign and
can be recycled. There are ļ¬rms that make the proļ¬les out
of a special composite material that is 100 percent lead free
and promotes sustainability.
The present Indian window and door (all material) industry
is worth about INR 14,000-15,000 crore, with uPVC
window and door proļ¬les accounting for about 8-10% of
the market. According to Ken Research, the uPVC window
and door industry is anticipated to increase by 30 % with
new and replacement sales over the next 10-15 years, with
big high-rise apartments in growing markets being
signiļ¬cant drivers of this expansion in metro cities.
We all know that the Indian window and door business is
unorganised, with no precise standardisation or norms;
uPVC is no exception. The growing popularity and demand
for uPVC windows and doors has provided possibilities for
numerous local and Chinese businesses to enter this market.
Because India is a price sensitive market, these ļ¬rms
frequently sacriļ¬ce quality to increase proļ¬ts, resulting in a
negative image of the product. To avert this predicament,
greater eļ¬orts from responsible and reputable producers are
needed to organise this market through standardisation of
quality and product standards. It will aid the market in
protecting the interests of consumers and manufacturers as
a whole. On the one hand, consumers will receive a high-
quality product at a reasonable price, while on the other,
reputable producers will be able to do business in a
favourable environment since most ļ¬rms that compromise
on quality will eventually be forced out of the market.
India is a varied country with a wide range of cultures,
customs, architecture, and weather. Every location
necessitates a unique home architecture based on the local
weather conditions. The north has brutal winter and
summer, the north-eastern area is mainly tropical, while the
west and south remain hot and see heavy rain during the
monsoon season. A few years ago, there was no one
material for their windows and doors that could be used all
year. However, the emergence of uPVC is a response to this
diverse window and door needs, bringing comfort to
fenestration experts who previously struggled with
problems such as thermal insulation, water tightness, sound
resistance, look and appearance, and durability. They are
now able to suggest world-class goods, such as uPVC, to
people searching for comfort and improved lives at
aļ¬ordable rates. Casement (outward and inward open), tilt
and turn, sliding, slide and fold, lift and slide, top hung, and
other kinds of uPVC windows and doors complement
modern architecture in a unique way.
India is quite enthusiastic about the industry's future. The
declaration of 100 smart cities, development in
infrastructure, increased FDI, and a growing middle class
all point to the uPVC window and door market expanding
and increasing at a healthy rate. According to published
projections, the market would expand at a CAGR of 7%
between 2015 and 2020. With metro and major cities
growing increasingly loud and polluting, uPVC windows
and doors are likely to become a top consideration for
consumers considering building new houses or upgrading
existing ones. The primary drivers of the Indian uPVC
window and door market are the increasing number of new
residential buildings and replacement activities, both of
which have contributed to the market's expansion. With a
rising number of faƧade and window experts in the nation,
the sector will develop and place a premium on quality over
low-cost materials. At the same time, this market needs
more informational ads to raise awareness.

How has the featured person ā CEO/Founder/Director
helped to enhance the companyās outreach? What
noteworthy contributions have the person made in
favour of the company?
Mr. Farid Khan, Director and CEO of Proļ¬ne India,
joined the company in 2007 to head and brand
āKoemmerling uPVC windows and doorsā in India which
was not so familiar in the industry at that time, but he was
sure that it will stay strong. He was like a one-man army
who used to plan, execute, and deliver the targets all by
himself. KOEMMERLING is present in India since 2005
and in the last 16 years, KOEMMERLING has become one
of the leading brands supplying products across the country
through a wide network of Channel Partners.
From the unknown to a well-known and trusted brand,
āKOEMMERLINGā has achieved signiļ¬cant success.
Under the leadership of Mr.Farid Khan, the company has
grown multi-fold, from importing uPVC proļ¬les to set up
own state of the state extrusion facility in India, from
inception to one of the leading brand, the companyās
journey has been remarkable. KOEMMERLING is
continuously growing, and management has plans of new
investments for bringing the best-in-class technology,
machinery, R&D, and skill development.
What challenges has your team faced in the earlier days
of the company? What struggles is the team going
through now?
The main challenge in earlier days was to make people
aware of uPVC. In a country like India where people still
consider wood as the best material for their windows and
doors requirement, it was quite tough to popularise uPVC
windows and doors. Over the period we have conducted
many awareness programs like architects meet, print and
digital advertisements, and exhibitions, etc., to make people
aware of the advantages of these modern System Windows.
Now we can see people have started using uPVC as a better
material over other traditional material due to its various
advantages like durability, low maintenance, sound
insulation, thermal insulation, water tightness,
sustainability, etc.

32. India is a price-sensitive market, as a result, many
companies have started selling cheap and low-grade uPVC
window and door material which looks ļ¬ne in short term
but as time passes it starts to crack and deteriorates its
original shape and colour. The biggest challenge for the
Indian market is to create awareness on why a quality
product should be preferred rather than going for a low
price with compromised quality. The industry is to establish
quality standards for uPVC windows and doors in India.
In the future, what are the prospects of your company?
Since its inception in India, Proļ¬ne has included a vast
range of uPVC window & door systems, which are being
produced at our plant. Further, we are closely in touch with
our associate channel partners and also aware of the
upcoming market trends to upgrade our systems for the
Indian market.
UPVC windows and doors are a decade-old product in
India but still considered at a nascent stage. India has a
huge demand for overall windows and doors which provide
uPVC a promising future in India. People are becoming
aware of the product due to the eļ¬orts put up by the
industry in spreading awareness about the performance and
durability of uPVC. As a responsible company, we have
been able to make people aware of why they should choose
uPVC over other traditional materials.
Apart from the excellent performance and durability of the
product, this product should be treated as a solution to
deforestation as it is an alternative to wood. It has helped in
decreasing the demand for wood globally for the fabrication
of windows and doors. UPVC is an eco-friendly and
sustainable product.
Despite many advantages of this product, it needs more
eļ¬orts and awareness programs both from the Private and
Government sector to make it popular amongst retail,
commercial, and government sectors. The private sector has
already initiated many awareness campaigns at the national
level which helped in gaining trust amongst the builders,
architects, engineers, fenestration consultants, and end-
users.
UWDMA is one such platform constituted by reputed
names of the fenestration industry. It helps in promoting
and propagating uPVC windows and doors and their
beneļ¬ts to the Indian construction industry and the general
public at large. On the other hand, Government should give
special attention to the uPVC industry. As a manufacturer,
we expect Government to ensure quality parameters and
standardize them through BIS. As this product helps in
providing environmental beneļ¬ts and reduces CO2
emissions it should be treated as a product of the need for
green buildings. Government should also consider slashing
the GST rate so that it becomes aļ¬ordable for the customers
and helps in reaching a larger segment.
Therefore, three most important things for the industry are:
ā¢ Quality Parameters & Standardization of Product
ā¢ Should be listed as a Green Product
ā¢ Low GST rate
