3. When did they come? The Indians began coming to New Zealand in the late 1800's and the people that came were mainly men.
4. How did the Indians get here? British ships passed India from time to time and some men got or snook on the ship. These British ships stopped at New Zealand to pick up homeward cargoes and then the Indians got off.
5. What town did they live in? The Indians preferred to stay in the North Island, mainly Auckland. But a small group of them lived in Christchurch. The men found work as hawkers*. * Hawkers - people who travel around and sell their goods by yelling about them in crowded places.
