2. India is in South Asia (Indian peninsula) and it
borders Pakistan, China and Bhutan.
The people of this country are called Indian.
The languages of India are Hindi and English.
3. There are 1,324,171,354 people living in the
country. The capital city is New Delhi (photo
1). Other important cities are Mumbai (in
photo 2), Hyderabad (photo 3) and Kolkata.
4. There are sandy beaches, rocky shores and
volcanic islands (Andaman and Nicobar in
photo 1) in India. There is also the Indian
Ocean and the Arabian Sea.
5. The climate is tropical. The weather is hot and
humid and there are monsoons in the rainy
season.
Indian people are worried about poverty
(=most Indians are extremely poor), poor
healthcare and natural disasters (e.g. floods,
droughts).
6. Well-known people from India are the political
leader Mahatma Gandhi (photo 1), the actor
Ben Kingsley (photo 2) and the actress Freida
Pinto (photo 3).
7. If you ever visit India, don’t forget to go to the
Taj Mahal, the sacred river Ganges (photo 1),
the Red Fort in Delhi (=home of emperors,
photo 2) and fantastic festivals (photo 3, Holi
festival of colours).
8. India is the 7th largest country and the 2nd
most populous country in the world. Indian
food is very spicy and famous throughout the
world.
