2. ◦No one can deny with the fact that, there has
been an increase in crimes against women during
COVID-19.
◦It is sad to see that, women are not even safe
in their own homes.
◦If we talk about social media, then cyber
crimes like stalking, sending vulgar texts or
pictures to women, harassment, threats etc.
have also occurred.

3. ◦One in every three women in the world is
subjected to physical or sexual violence, the
majority of which is committed by an intimate
partner.
◦Violence against women, particularly domestic
violence, has increased since the pandemic.
◦This is the Shadow Pandemic that is erupting
in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis, and we
need a worldwide response to halt it.

4. ◦ Domestic abuse deaths more than doubled (to 16 deaths) in the
UK between March 23 and April 12 compared to the average rate
over the preceding ten years, according to a study tracking
violence against women.
◦ Domestic abuse incidents and distress calls soared in the first
week of the COVID-19 lockdown, according to the National
Commission for Women (NCW), which released a warning in early
April.
◦ The National Commission of Women (NCW) received 13,410
complaints of crimes against women between March – September
2020, of which 4,350 were domestic violence.

8. SENIOR LAW PARTNER ACCUSED OF INAPPROPRIATE MESSAGES TO FEMALE
INTERNS; THEY SPEAK UP ON LINKEDIN
◦ Advocate Mukul Goyal who is the Founding Partner of the law firm has been accused
of sending inappropriate text messages to the female interns.
◦ The Advocate has subsequently deleted his profile from LinkedIn and Instagram
upon the allegations becoming public. Path Legal, an online directory of lawyers states
that, he is a lawyer with 10 years of experience, and practises in the Supreme Court
and Punjab & Haryana High Court among several other Courts and Tribunals.
◦ The allegations coming to light against a senior legal professional have left the legal
fraternity shaken, putting a spotlight on the unsafe work environment women are
often subject to.
◦ The interns who have spoken up are first- and second-year law students who were
part of a virtual legal internship offered by Indo Juris Legal, where Mukul Goyal had
created a WhatsApp group for all the interns. The first question they were asked
was “whether they were a boy or girl”, something the male interns too have
coroborrated.

10. CONCLUSION
It is very disturbing to see that, women are suppressed
everywhere, even at homes. Many of them just silently
let such incidents happen and fear in filing complaints or
asking for help. Such kind of an environment really
needs to be changed otherwise that day is not far
where the world would become a hell to live in for
women. Thus, it can be concluded that, violence against
women is not only a problem faced in India, rather in
all over the world.
