OUR GROUP
1. OURWORK
• The main aims of this research group fo-
cus on the generation of revolutionary te-
chniques based on In Situ dental tissue
engineering concepts and using smart
resin-based biomaterials able to reestabli-
sh the biomechanical properties of mine-
ral-depleted dental hard tissues in conjunc-
tion with minimally invasive dentistry.
• These innovative approaches will be able to
induce:
- Apatite nano-nucleation precursors
(ANP) rather than micro-cluster agglo-
meration
- Hierarchical collagen bioremineralisation
at intra- and extra-fibrillar level
- Differentiation of pulpal cells into repara-
tive odontoblasts/fibroblast-like cells
- Bacteriostatic and/or antibacterial activi-
ty on caries biofilms
- Recovery of the biomechanical functio-
nality of mineral-depleted bonded inter-
faces providing a long-term foundation
for minimally invasive dental restorations.
4. FACILITIES
• New fully equipped research labora-
tories; mechanical properties testing;
sample processing laboratory; organic/
inorganic, formulations permeability; mi-
croscopy facility, spectroscopy, chroma-
tography, biocompatibility/cell differentia-
tion support, etc.
2. RESEARCH
INTERESTS
• Participation in projects related to
the development clinical procedures
in combination with smart materials
and therapeutic new technologies
able to:
- Remineralise collagen at intra- and
extra-fibrillar level in caries affected
dentine
- Induce differentiation of pulpal cells
into reparative odontoblasts/fibro-
blast-like cells
- Provoke a bacteriostatic and/or anti-
bacterial effect on caries biofilms
- Recover of the biomechanical func-
tionality of mineral-depleted bonded
3. EXPERTISE AND
EXPERIENCE
• Experience in dental biomaterials, preventive
and minimally invasive dentistry research for
15 years
• Collaboration with internationally renowned
researchers,
• More than 100 articles published in interna-
tional peer-review journals with high impact
in the dental field,
• More than 150 abstracts of research in inter-
national conferences
• Two international patents and chapters in
scientific books
• International projects.
• Shared international grant application
• Collaboration and exchange of international researchers between groups, both in short stays
and for the shared direction of doctoral theses.
