An impulse turbine uses jets of steam to turn blades and extract energy. The velocity triangle diagram shows the direction and relative velocities of the steam into and out of the stationary and rotating blades. The angles, velocities and other parameters in the diagram are used to analyze the impulse and reaction of the steam on the blades to transfer rotational energy.
