Snowboarding has evolved from early attempts in the 1960s using trash can lids and cardboard to modern snowboards. The Snurfer, developed in 1965, was one of the first mass-produced snowboarding toys. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, snowboarding continued to gain popularity through competitions and magazines. It was not until 1994 that snowboarding was officially recognized as an Olympic sport, representing how far the sport had come from its origins.
