This document analyzes the most common topics that have appeared on the GATE Strength of Materials exam over the past 5 years. It finds that statically indeterminate beams, Mohr's circle, stress and strain, deflection of beams, and torsion are the topics that have appeared most frequently on the exams from 2016 to 2015. Based on this analysis, the most important topics to study for the 2017 GATE ME exam in Strength of Materials are shear force and bending moment, Mohr's circle, stress and strain, deflection of beams, and torsion.
