2. 1.To understand the community in which the
patient belongs.
A nurse can understand whether the patient is from the
urban or rural community . The problem in the
urban and rural areas are entirely different. So, it
will help the nurse to understand the base of the
problem.
Ex- Poor sanitation is the problem of rural areas,
where noise and air pollution is common among
urban community.
3. 2. To understand the patient’s and his family
members beliefs and customs
Its important for nurse to understand the beliefs as well
as the customs of patients and their family members .
So that the nurse can provide instruction to them
accordingly.
Ex- Religious community Jehovah’s witness strongly
believes that the blood transformation is against to
god and so she/he won’t accept the blood tranfusion
in any situations
4. 3.To know the Economic Background of the
patient.
A nurse can render health teaching on the basis of the
economic status. As the low economic individuals
cannot afford money to buy the fruits which are very
costly.
A nurse can teach and refer to the health care facilities
based on their economic status.
Ex- Mr. Raju can afford eating amla instead of costly
fruit. Namely kiwi. Since both fruits are rich in Vitamin
c.
5. 4. To act as per the social norms and
regulations
The social norms and regulations are common to every
individual who belongs to the particular social group.
Nurse can also follow the norms of one’s own social
group.
Ex- All the nurses have to practice handwashing before
touching the patient n order to prevent the cross
infection. This norm should be followed by every
nurse.
6. 5. Understand the problems that exist the
social groups
The social problems exist in the social group have to
be well understood by the nurse in order to act
promptly so that she could prevent the
complications.
Ex- Many individuals are stressed out in the
lockdown period at the times of COVID-19. So,
nurse can plan telecousulting measures to prevent
further depressions
7. 6. To act empathically in the situations
Thinking empathically is essential for the nurse to
provide the efficient nursing care. It helps to
stand in patient’s position and understand the
scenario.
Ex- A patient might get psychologically upset due
to the conflicts that exist among the family
members. A nurse has to stand in patient
position and think accodingly.
8. 7. Understanding the social structure willhelp
the nurse to solve the problems tactfully.
The knowledge on the social structure helps the
nurse in problem solving and decision making. Ex-
Nurse who has knowledge on trancultural nursing
might solve the problem that exist in the patient
who belongs to jainism.
9. 8.To provide the Holistic Nursing care to the patient.
Health is the complete state of physical, mental,
social and spiritual well being as per the world
health organisation. Nurse can render the holistic
nursing care with the knowledge of social
structure.
10. 9. To improve the community participation in the
health promotion.
Nurse can promote the community participation so that
it promotes the ‘we’ feeling concept among them.
Community health nurse can do the same in order to
enhance the health of the rural population.
Ex- A nurse can motivate the community people to
maintain the environmental sanitation around them
thereby it prevents the illness due to poor sanitation.
