Canada's immigration laws and policies have changed over time. Currently, Canada accepts over 200,000 immigrants per year who are assessed based on factors like being beneficial to the economy, having needed skills, family connections, security screening, and health checks. Provinces can also nominate immigrants to meet their specific workforce needs through programs like the Provincial Nomination Program. The Canada-Quebec Accord gives Quebec exclusive power to select immigrants wishing to reside there directly from abroad.
