1) The document discusses improvements made to the productivity and quality of an aluminum die casting process for an XC-60 housing component through the application of Kaizen methodology.
2) Major defects identified through analysis of 100 samples included dents, blackmarks, failures of M4 gauge tests and slider fits. Changes to dies, fixtures, and processes reduced rejection rates for these defects.
3) Additional changes such as a pneumatic slider cutting fixture and optimized sanding procedures increased productivity from 87 to 128 units and reduced cycle times from 71 to 48 minutes by addressing bottlenecks in machining and trimming operations.
IRJET- Optimization of Plastic Injection MoldingIRJET Journal
The document discusses optimization of plastic injection molding process parameters using Taguchi methods and Moldflow simulation software. It analyzes the effect of melt temperature, cooling time, injection pressure, and mold temperature on the warpage of a honey cup part made of polypropylene. An L9 orthogonal array experiment is designed using the Taguchi approach to study these four parameters at three levels each. The results show that melt temperature has the most significant effect on warpage, followed by mold temperature, injection pressure, and cooling time. The optimal parameter settings found to minimize warpage are a melt temperature of 180°C, cooling time of 15 seconds, injection pressure of 90MPa, and mold temperature of 50°C.
Failure of tube reduced in split air conditionerprjpublications
This document summarizes a research paper that uses Six Sigma methodology to reduce failures of tubes in split air conditioners. The paper:
1) Defines the problem as leakage found in evaporator assemblies due to tube dimension variations. Six Sigma's DMAIC approach is used to identify the root cause.
2) In the measure phase, flaring angle, diameter, and torque are measured and process capabilities are calculated to determine how much variation exists.
3) The analyze phase identifies flaring diameter and angle as the two most important factors and statistically verifies them using various tests.
4) The document provides figures and diagrams to support the methodology and findings at each stage of the DMAIC process.
This document summarizes the results of a partnership between UPM-Miramichi and RLG International to improve mill performance through behaviour changes. Key results included reducing backyard losses and downtime on PM1, improving uptime and maintenance performance on PM2, and increased sharing of performance data with frontline workers. Factors impacting initial poor performance included unclear job expectations and lack of timely performance data for workers. Through coaching and implementing clear targets, performance tracking, and increased communication of results, improvements were realized across both paper machines. Workers became more engaged and accountable for results. The partnership helped introduce strategies to better involve workers and provide feedback, leading to sustained performance gains.

IRJET - Analysis of Rejection of Square Piston and its RemediesIRJET Journal
This document analyzes the rejection of square pistons in a manufacturing process and proposes remedies. It finds that the hydraulic piston part has the highest rejection rate of 58 components out of the total rejected over 3 months. The CNC turning machine was responsible for the most rejections at 28 components, followed by the arm milling machine at 21. Further analysis of the face milling process found the primary defects were milling width minus, accounting for 11 rejected components, and milling taper, accounting for 8 rejected components. The document aims to reduce rejection rates by identifying causes of defects through statistical analysis tools like Pareto charts.
The document summarizes the journey of implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) at Salalah Port. It describes the initial preparation phase which included management commitment, training, and forming a TPM organization. It then discusses the kickoff event and progress made in the first phase, including workshops held and results from model machines which showed a 72% reduction in breakdowns on average. Key activities from the autonomous maintenance program are also summarized such as identifying abnormalities, implementing countermeasures and standard work procedures, and training operators.
The document provides a full reverse costing analysis of the Hamamatsu C12880MA microspectrometer. It includes a physical analysis of the package, reflective grating, image sensor, and die cross-section. The manufacturing process flow is examined, covering the front-end IC process, wafer fabrication, sensor layers process, grating process, and packaging. A cost analysis is presented for the front-end, image sensor die, grating, packaging, and total component cost. The report also provides a selling price analysis and compares the C12880MA to other spectrometer technologies.
How to define Quality Models for Measuring Software Qualityuqasar
Presentation about Software Quality Assurance and the use of the U-QASAR methodology to create a Quality Model that reflects the company priorities and needs
The document provides a summary of an industrial training project at FIAT India Automobiles Limited. It discusses 3 projects aimed at improving productivity, quality, and safety. Project 1 focuses on improving safety by implementing proper use of personal protective equipment. Project 2 analyzes defects using a problem-solving tool to identify human errors as the root cause. Project 3 reduces non-value-added activities in the trimming assembly line by merging inspection stages, eliminating unnecessary movements, and balancing the line activities. The goals are to reduce bottlenecks and increase production throughput.
IRJET - Invistigation and Implement of Six Sigma and Reduce Labour Cost a...IRJET Journal
This document discusses an investigation into implementing Six Sigma methods to reduce rejection rates and labor costs in a plastic injection molding process. It begins with an introduction to injection molding and Six Sigma. A case study of an Indian plastic parts manufacturer is presented, where the process was experiencing high rejection rates of 10%. Six Sigma methods were used to identify causes of defects like missing inserts. Solutions included adding a timer to the process logic controller to stop the process if inserts were missing. This reduced rejection rates to only 5% and saved an estimated Rs. 172,800 per year in labor costs by reducing downtime. In conclusion, Six Sigma implementation improved quality, productivity and profits for the company by minimizing variations and defects.
Study on Improving Throughput Time through Value Stream MappingAlwin Thomas
This study shows how to improve the throughput time of tyre manufacturing process in Apollo Tyre, through analyzing the Value Stream Mapping. The lead time was reduced drastically through better implementation plans as mentioned in the slide
The document summarizes a study conducted on improving throughput time through value stream mapping at Apollo Tyres Ltd. Key points:
- The study aimed to map the tyre manufacturing value stream and identify factors affecting throughput time to reduce it.
- Current state and future state value stream maps were created from data collected on cycle times, changeover times, utilization rates etc. of each process.
- The current throughput time was found to be 15 hours 74 minutes. Future state improvements could reduce this by 28 minutes.
- Recommendations included increasing line speeds, changing equipment to reduce cycle times and eliminate non-value added steps.
The document provides an overview of failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA). It discusses the history and evolution of FMEA from its origins in the aerospace industry in the 1960s to the current AIAG VDA FMEA Handbook published in 2019. The document outlines the seven step approach of the new handbook, including planning, structure analysis, function analysis, optimization, risk analysis, failure analysis, and documentation of results. It also summarizes some of the major changes between the previous AIAG 4th edition and new handbook, such as replacing RPN with action priority and revising the rating tables.
The document describes various micro manufacturing processes including micro electrical discharge machining (μEDM), laser drilling, and micro mechanical drilling. It discusses the principles, capabilities, and examples of different micro manufacturing techniques such as μEDM wiring, milling, and drilling. The techniques can produce precision parts and microstructures with feature sizes less than 30 μm. Surface roughness as low as Ra 0.05 μm can be achieved but the processes also result in micro cracks and non-homogeneous recast layers on surfaces. The document compares the hole machining characteristics such as diameter, roughness, and time for micro EDM, mechanical drilling, and laser drilling processes.
Failure of tube reduced in split air conditioner (2)prj_publication
This document describes a study conducted using Six Sigma methodology to reduce failures in air conditioner tube assemblies. The study aimed to reduce rejection rates, called Part Per Million (PPM), of tube assemblies used in split air conditioners manufactured by LG Electronics India Private Limited. Researchers used Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) phases of Six Sigma to identify root causes of high PPM, including issues with flaring angle, diameter, and torque of tubes. Measurement data showed the process for flaring tubes was incapable of meeting specifications. The study helped reduce tube leakage and PPM by 92.62% through improving the tube flaring process.

MTM and Ergonomics
22. December 2008 From the desk of G. Caragnano, IMD Executiv e Director 22
Synergies between MTM and Ergonomics
l As modern industrial engineers we have a huge
responsibility when designing and optimizing
technological systems
l We cannot afford to separate process
efficiency from ergonomics: it would be too
expensive
l Synergies result in the cost of ergo analysis
representing only a small percentage with
respect to the resources required to take care of
professional diseases caused by biomechanical
overload (absenteeism, low performance, social
costs, etc.)
23. December 2008 From the desk of G. Caragnano, IMD Executiv e Director 23
IMD initiatives
l Official MTM techniques and most
accepted ergonomic analysis systems
have been integrated into an innovative
scientific approach to work study
¡ It puts human needs and capabilities at the
forefront
¡ It focuses on the process design phase (and
product design will come next)
¡ It overcomes the paradigm “High Productivity –
High human stress”

IMD Target
lThe MTM-ERGO tool must meet the
following requirements:
¡ Additional cost for adding ergo codes < 25%
¡ Utilize official MTM systems
¡ Utilize recognized ergonomic analysis systems
¡ Utilized by industrial engineers

EAWS is a 1° level system for screening
ergonomic risk due to biomechanical
overload.
What is EAWS
Note 1st LEVEL systems: risk evaluation systems which require a quick
screening checklist.
2nd LEVEL systems: risk evaluation systems which require a detailed
analysis with index calculations. They are applied
where a possible risk has been already detected
by a 1st level system.
