Slide presentations developed to demonstrate how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) be used to address climate change, and why ICTs are a crucial part of the solution – i.e. in promoting efficiency, Green Growth & sustainable development, in dealing with climate change and for climate and environmental action. These slide presentations were delivered in February 2011 in Seongnam, near Seoul in Korea.
These presentations were developed and delivered over 2.5 days on the occasion of a Regional Training of Trainers Workshop for upcoming Academy modules on ICT for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Abatement. These modules were developed as part of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government leaders developed by the United Nations (UN) Asia Pacific Centre for ICT Training (APCICT), based in Songdo City, in the Republic of South Korea.
These presentations were developed in 2011, and are somewhat out of date, but most of the principles still apply. Module 10, which has been published, does not include much of the information outlined in these presentations, which are fairly technical. They were developed to address a significant gap in understanding of the technical basis of using ICTs for climate action and because there is a clear bias in development circles against the importance of dealing with climate change mitigation in developing countries. These presentations are an attempt to redress this lack and are published here with this purpose in mind.
The author, Richard Labelle, is presently working on updating these presentations to further highlight the importance of addressing climate change and the important role that technology including ICTs, play in this effort.

The rapidly evolving world of technology is now affecting the way we are approaching the design of the places we live, work and play. The driving trend is towards smarter buildings that are safer, more comfortable and productive for occupants and more operationally efficient for owners.

3. What are the top ten technology influences upon property design.

beetle) and when it combines with its substrate, luciferin, light is produced. Luciferin is very
expensive to purchase. You would therefore like to figure out the biosynthetic pathway for
making luciferin so that you can get bacteria to make luciferin. This will enable you pay off all
your college loans! You have obtained 5 mutant firefly stocks that each fail to glow at night.
The flies in each stock have the wild type luciferase gene but ultimately fail to make the luciferin
substrate. Each stock has a unique mutation in one of the genes required to make luciferin. You
know that the biosynthesis of luciferin involves 5 intermediate compounds: A, B, C, D, and E.
However, you do not know the order that these compounds appear in the pathway. When you
feed these intermediate compounds to the mutant fireflies, they sometimes are able glow (+) and
sometimes still cannot glow (-). However, when you feed the mutant fireflies luciferin, they
always glow. Based on the results in the table above, write the biosynthetic pathway for
luciferin, showing the order of the intermediates (A-E) and the genes (M1-M5) required to
convert each intermediate to the next in the pathway.

protein, such as an antibody, would be produced in an animal cell, starting in the nucleus.

Cells secrete proteins for their own cytosol or for release into surrounding extracellular fluid.
These secretions may include various hormones, digestive enzymes, antibodies, mucus etc.
The transcription process (conversion of DNA to mRNA) occurs inside the nucleus. This newly

The vesicles with correctly folded proteins then enter the golgi appratus where further
posttranslational modifications occur including cleavage and functionalization. When the protein
moves through the entire Golgi apparatus, it buds off as secretion vesicles. Now, with the help of
cell\'s cytoskeleton, it moves towards the edge of the cell and attaches itself to the membrane.
Eventually, vesicle fuses with the cell membrane releasing its contents out of the cell through
the process of exocytosis.

harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
