Three years ago, on a fine morning, a gentleman walked into one of our office.
He was finding someone with whom he could talk. It seemed he wanted to make
a new beginning to something that could change other’s mindset.
He sat with one of our consultants. After a coffee, he spoke,
“I want to make an investment. Perhaps a risky one.”
RWM Consultant : Sure sir, before that may I know your name.
“My name is Rantoop Thakur.”
Consultant : Sir, are you confirm on the kind of investment you want to make ?
“Yes, in shares, Equity - as you people call it.”
Consultant : Sir, may I know more details about you.
“We can talk about the details later. The thing that I want you to know, listen
carefully, I’ve a family, whose being doing business since last five decades. What
business, which business – that’s not important. Now, these family members of
mine have a mindset that shares are dangerous. They think that you always make
a loss by investing in them. As I have heard a lot about this company & the good
work it has been doing. I came here with a hope. Son, this is not about money.
It’s completely about respect.”
Consultant : How sir ?
“I will explain you how. As I told you about my family. I made them a challenge that
I will make an investment in equity for a spam of time without making a loss.”
Consultant : But, the risk will certainly be involved Sir.
“That’s the reason I came here. Presenting a challenge for both of us.”

[Here, it wasn’t about money for that man. The consultant asked for some time.
He agreed for a week. The consultant had a talk with his’ manager. Research was
done over various companies, especially the blue chip ones. They made a report
of various companies who hadn’t made a loss since a long time. As far as this man
was concerned, for his respect to grow, we had to give him something that could
double or triple his self-respect. More than that, it was the respect of our company
RWM that was at stake by his challenge. As everyone knows, equity is predictable to
some extent but no one can give a mere assurance for the same. And, in the case of
this man a huge money was about to get invested with an equal amount of risk
involved.]
[The matter came to my notice through the board room. I & other board members
discussed about it. But, remained conclusionless. Finally, it was the same consultant
who met that man, came to me with an idea.]
As it’s truly said – It’s the idea that starts money.
He said, “Sir, I am aware that, this case is different. As there are a lot of emotions
attached to it.”
“It seems your mind has an idea that could provide help.” – I replied.
“Sir, we have researched a lot about various companies. But sir, what I feel is, as the
case is different, the solution to it should also be of a different nature.”
“Please continue, I m listening.” – I expressed.
“Sir, I want this man to invest in a company that has in the recent past faced a big
downfall.” P.T.O.
“I didn’t get you son.” – I reacted.
“I m talking about Satyam, sir.”, he said.
[It was just a day before, we had called that man to talk. So we had to decide weather we
were going to work to help him gain his respect or ask him to knock some other door.]
[I was still not sure about the idea my person came up with. Yet, I said a yes, this yes from me
Was a green signal to that person in my office for doing something that was really challenging.]
That night, as a coincidence, a friend messaged me a quote, which stated :
“If there is anything that a man can do well, I say let him do it. Give him a chance.”

[The idea that young consultant had in mind was risky yet if it yield worthwhile results
‘Respect’ would have been a very small word in front of it.]
[It was the year 2009, when Satyam – ‘A giant’ shocked everyone by it’s high on the line scam.
It’s market price saw a massive decline. After which, a lot of legal background work started. The
company was removed from the listings of various stock exchanges viz. NSE, BSE, NYSE. The
Foreign investments were withdrawn leaving the company helpless.]
In the same year on April 13th the Mahindra group acquired a 56% stake at Satyam. And,
rebranded it as the Mahindra Satyam with a new board & CEO.
From here, came the investment idea to our consultant. During those days, when the client
Mr. Rantoop Thakur approached us the market price of the re – listed Mahindra Satyam’s share
was merely Rs. 6.

[Next day, our client came. With a hope in heart, he greeted the consultant with a smile.]
“So can I gain it ?” – his words reflected his eagerness to know the answer.
Consultant : Your respect, I suppose, yes.
He grinned, “How much do I need to invest ?”
His excitement showed he didn’t care even a bit about money as he had excess of it.
Consultant : That depends on you sir. By the way, don’t you want to know where am I
Asking you to invest.
“Man, I know you will certainly tell that to me. So what’s it ?”
Consultant : Mahindra Satyam.
“yeah, I have been hearing about it in the media. But that’s a strange option, I thought
You might give me a stable, good name, clear image kind of a company’s option.”
Consultant : Sir, I can still give that to you, but since there’re words like Challenge & Respect
involved, I prefer giving you this option. Now, the decision about investment is solely at your
discretion.
“It’s a yes, can we now talk about the money that is going to be involved.”
Consultant : Sure sir, but don’t you want to think over it again.
“I can, but as u said there’re words like Challenge & Respect involved. There’s another one
known as ‘Trust’ involved too, from now onwards. And, I believe these words will make it
Happen for both of us.
Consultant : Belief is good. So sir, how much would you invest ?
“Starting with one followed by seven zeros.”
Consultant : A crore ?
“Smart guess.”
Consultant : Fine sir. P.T.O.
“What next ?”
Consultant : You will have to put your signature on few documents.
“That will be done. And within a day or two, you will also get the money. But the question
still remains the same. ‘Can you do it ?’ ”
Consultant : Are you asking for a promise from a financial consultant ?
“How about as a man accepting a challenge ?”
Consultant : Sir, we have already accepted it.
“Fine, so how long according to you I & money has to wait ?”
Consultant : A month. You’ll own 16,66,667 shares of the company @ the current value of
Rs.6 = Rs 1,00,00,002.
“A month, 30 days, I’m counting on you.”
Consultant : Thank you.
[Within these 30 days, the market value of Mahindra Satyam’s shares went up from Rs. 6 to
Rs. 30]
On the 30th day, all the shares of Mr. Thakur were sold off in the secondary market.
Making a profit of, Rs. 4,00,00,008.
The total amount that he got back was Rs. 5,00,00,010. [Including the principle amount.
Excluding the brokerage @ 2% ie. Rs. 10,00,000.2]
He paid us the commission more than what was accepted on the contract.
Thus, money is not always the return. And at RWM that is one of our principles which helps
us Work better to meet our customer’s needs as close as possible.
And here, it wasn’t just about Mr. Thakur’s respect but also of our own, which will stay
forever in his heart.

  • 8. Three years ago, on a fine morning, a gentleman walked into one of our office. He was finding someone with whom he could talk. It seemed he wanted to make a new beginning to something that could change other’s mindset. He sat with one of our consultants. After a coffee, he spoke, “I want to make an investment. Perhaps a risky one.” RWM Consultant : Sure sir, before that may I know your name. “My name is Rantoop Thakur.” Consultant : Sir, are you confirm on the kind of investment you want to make ? “Yes, in shares, Equity - as you people call it.” Consultant : Sir, may I know more details about you. “We can talk about the details later. The thing that I want you to know, listen carefully, I’ve a family, whose being doing business since last five decades. What business, which business – that’s not important. Now, these family members of mine have a mindset that shares are dangerous. They think that you always make a loss by investing in them. As I have heard a lot about this company & the good work it has been doing. I came here with a hope. Son, this is not about money. It’s completely about respect.” Consultant : How sir ? “I will explain you how. As I told you about my family. I made them a challenge that I will make an investment in equity for a spam of time without making a loss.” Consultant : But, the risk will certainly be involved Sir. “That’s the reason I came here. Presenting a challenge for both of us.” P.T.O.
  • 9. [Here, it wasn’t about money for that man. The consultant asked for some time. He agreed for a week. The consultant had a talk with his’ manager. Research was done over various companies, especially the blue chip ones. They made a report of various companies who hadn’t made a loss since a long time. As far as this man was concerned, for his respect to grow, we had to give him something that could double or triple his self-respect. More than that, it was the respect of our company RWM that was at stake by his challenge. As everyone knows, equity is predictable to some extent but no one can give a mere assurance for the same. And, in the case of this man a huge money was about to get invested with an equal amount of risk involved.] [The matter came to my notice through the board room. I & other board members discussed about it. But, remained conclusionless. Finally, it was the same consultant who met that man, came to me with an idea.] As it’s truly said – It’s the idea that starts money. He said, “Sir, I am aware that, this case is different. As there are a lot of emotions attached to it.” “It seems your mind has an idea that could provide help.” – I replied. “Sir, we have researched a lot about various companies. But sir, what I feel is, as the case is different, the solution to it should also be of a different nature.” “Please continue, I m listening.” – I expressed. “Sir, I want this man to invest in a company that has in the recent past faced a big downfall.” P.T.O.
  • 10. “I didn’t get you son.” – I reacted. “I m talking about Satyam, sir.”, he said. [It was just a day before, we had called that man to talk. So we had to decide weather we were going to work to help him gain his respect or ask him to knock some other door.] [I was still not sure about the idea my person came up with. Yet, I said a yes, this yes from me Was a green signal to that person in my office for doing something that was really challenging.] That night, as a coincidence, a friend messaged me a quote, which stated : “If there is anything that a man can do well, I say let him do it. Give him a chance.” - Abraham Lincoln. [The idea that young consultant had in mind was risky yet if it yield worthwhile results ‘Respect’ would have been a very small word in front of it.] [It was the year 2009, when Satyam – ‘A giant’ shocked everyone by it’s high on the line scam. It’s market price saw a massive decline. After which, a lot of legal background work started. The company was removed from the listings of various stock exchanges viz. NSE, BSE, NYSE. The Foreign investments were withdrawn leaving the company helpless.] In the same year on April 13th the Mahindra group acquired a 56% stake at Satyam. And, rebranded it as the Mahindra Satyam with a new board & CEO. From here, came the investment idea to our consultant. During those days, when the client Mr. Rantoop Thakur approached us the market price of the re – listed Mahindra Satyam’s share was merely Rs. 6. P.T.O.
  • 11. [Next day, our client came. With a hope in heart, he greeted the consultant with a smile.] “So can I gain it ?” – his words reflected his eagerness to know the answer. Consultant : Your respect, I suppose, yes. He grinned, “How much do I need to invest ?” His excitement showed he didn’t care even a bit about money as he had excess of it. Consultant : That depends on you sir. By the way, don’t you want to know where am I Asking you to invest. “Man, I know you will certainly tell that to me. So what’s it ?” Consultant : Mahindra Satyam. “yeah, I have been hearing about it in the media. But that’s a strange option, I thought You might give me a stable, good name, clear image kind of a company’s option.” Consultant : Sir, I can still give that to you, but since there’re words like Challenge & Respect involved, I prefer giving you this option. Now, the decision about investment is solely at your discretion. “It’s a yes, can we now talk about the money that is going to be involved.” Consultant : Sure sir, but don’t you want to think over it again. “I can, but as u said there’re words like Challenge & Respect involved. There’s another one known as ‘Trust’ involved too, from now onwards. And, I believe these words will make it Happen for both of us. Consultant : Belief is good. So sir, how much would you invest ? “Starting with one followed by seven zeros.” Consultant : A crore ? “Smart guess.” Consultant : Fine sir. P.T.O.
  • 12. “What next ?” Consultant : You will have to put your signature on few documents. “That will be done. And within a day or two, you will also get the money. But the question still remains the same. ‘Can you do it ?’ ” Consultant : Are you asking for a promise from a financial consultant ? “How about as a man accepting a challenge ?” Consultant : Sir, we have already accepted it. “Fine, so how long according to you I & money has to wait ?” Consultant : A month. You’ll own 16,66,667 shares of the company @ the current value of Rs.6 = Rs 1,00,00,002. “A month, 30 days, I’m counting on you.” Consultant : Thank you. [Within these 30 days, the market value of Mahindra Satyam’s shares went up from Rs. 6 to Rs. 30] On the 30th day, all the shares of Mr. Thakur were sold off in the secondary market. Making a profit of, Rs. 4,00,00,008. The total amount that he got back was Rs. 5,00,00,010. [Including the principle amount. Excluding the brokerage @ 2% ie. Rs. 10,00,000.2] He paid us the commission more than what was accepted on the contract. Thus, money is not always the return.
