Da mercoledi 7 a venerdi 9 maggio si terrà a Firenze la 3° edizione di ‘Pausa Caffè Festival’, manifestazione dedicata alla diffusione della cultura del caffè di qualità, nata con lo scopo di valorizzare l’eccellenza e la cultura del Made in Italy. Con la direzione artistica del tre volte campione italiano di caffetteria Francesco Sanapo (2010, 2011 e 2013), e del coffee expert Andrej Godina, dottore di ricerca in scienza tecnologia ed economia nell'industria del caffè, questa sarà un’edizione speciale, interamente ad ingresso libero: per la prima volta, infatti, il festival approderà in Piazza della Repubblica, nel centro storico del capoluogo toscano, e presso la biblioteca delle Oblate e la suggestiva terrazza vista Duomo della caffetteria. L’evento è organizzato da NEM – Nuovi Eventi Musicali, in collaborazione con il Comune di Firenze – Assessorato alla cultura e varie realtà del mondo caffeicolo nazionale, tra cui il World of Coffee, il grande expo dedicato al mondo del caffè che si terrà a Rimini il prossimo 10-12 giugno.

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental Health
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

- 12. Le basi del caffè dalla pianta alla tazza. Il modulo è studiato per i neofiti per introdurli al mondo degli specialty coffees. I corsi di formazione per preparare i partecipanti a superare gli esami scritto e pratico durano almeno mezza giornata.
- 13. Il modulo green riguarda tutto ciò che ruota attorno al mondo del caffè verde e al Controllo Qualità. Gli argomenti trattati sono la botanica del caffè, i diversi metodi di lavorazione, individuare i difetti, assaggiare il caffè in metodologia “cupping”, conoscere il mercato del caffè e saper acquistarlo acquistare.
- 14. Il modulo sensory tratta il mondo sensoriale del caffè applicato al laboratorio assaggi con la metodologia di preparazione “cupping”. Gli argomenti base del modulo sono l’analisi sensoriale, l’anatomia e fisiologia della percezione sensoriale, l’assaggio del caffè, i protocolli di preparazione “cupping” SCAA e Cupf Excellence.
- 15. Il modulo roasting insegna a tostare il caffè con competenza teorica e pratica per trasformare nel modo corretto gli specialty coffees. Capire il processo di tostatura, conoscere le più importanti modificazioni chimico-fisiche, misurare l’umidità del caffè verde, gestire diversi profili di tostatura, misurare il colore di tostatura.
- 16. Il modulo brewing approfondisce il mondo del caffè filtro e della macinatura per preparare correttamente una buona tazza di caffè. La certificazione prevede la trattazione degli argomenti correlati alla macinatura e alla preparazione del caffè filtro, il controllo della bevanda sulla brewing control chart, l’impatto dell’acidità nella tazza.
- 17. Il modulo barista skills tratta gli argomenti del mondo dell’espresso e delle bevande a base di espresso, cappuccino e macchiato. Teoria e pratica su come preparare un espresso perfetto si incrociano con gli argomenti inerenti la schiumatura perfetta del latte per il cappuccino e il macchiato assieme alla perfetta pulizia e manutenzione dell’attrezzatura per l’espresso.
