A 33-year-old female patient reported with a discolored left maxillary central incisor due to trauma 17 years prior. Radiographs showed complete obliteration of the root canal. Rather than endodontic treatment, a lithium disilicate crown was used to restore esthetics. The tooth was prepared and an impression was taken before creating a temporary crown. The final lithium disilicate crown provided a natural appearance and solved the patient's esthetic concerns in a minimally invasive manner.
This poster presents options for correcting horizontal soft tissue defects seen after implant placement. Case 1 demonstrates the use of a trap-door incision and folding of occlusal tissue to cover a buccal defect. Case 2 uses a mini-pedicle flap outlined around the implant platform and de-epithelialized to roll underneath the buccal pouch. Post-operative photos show good tissue fill of the defects after 6 months to 1 year. The conclusion is that soft tissue augmentation after implant placement can effectively compensate for loss of labial volume and maintain esthetics long-term.
The document discusses causes and treatments for discolored teeth. It identifies extrinsic causes like coffee, tea, tobacco and intrinsic causes like tetracycline use or trauma. Age can also cause yellowing. Treatments mentioned include regular brushing, flossing and rinsing, as well as bleaching, microabrasion, veneers and dental cleanings. More details are provided at the listed website.
This document discusses a case study of a 22-year-old patient who had generalized spacing in their upper and lower front teeth. Pre-treatment models and photos were taken, and a lingual set-up was done using a torque angulation and bracket positioning device. After orthodontic treatment, the patient's spacing was corrected. Post-treatment photos and X-rays show the improved alignment. Ceramic veneers were placed on the peg lateral teeth to improve aesthetics.

This document discusses adult orthodontics, including:
- The history of adult orthodontics dating back to 1880.
- Reasons for the increased interest in adult orthodontics, such as improved appliance techniques and patient awareness.
- Differences between treating adult vs. adolescent patients, including that adults have no growth potential and require more collaboration with other specialists.
- Types of adult orthodontic patients and treatments, including adjunctive treatment to facilitate restorations by positioning teeth.
- Goals and procedures for adjunctive treatment focus on improving periodontal health and crown-root ratios by uprighting teeth.
This document discusses immediate dentures, including definitions, reasons for replacement, advantages and disadvantages, fabrication process, and post-insertion care. Immediate dentures are inserted immediately following tooth extraction and are intended to preserve appearance and function during healing. The fabrication process involves making impressions and records with remaining teeth present and inserting the dentures following extractions guided by a surgical template. Immediate dentures can maintain appearance and function but have challenges due to limited ability to try-in prior to insertion and potential for poor fit during healing.
- It is not always necessary to replace all missing teeth. Replacement should only be done if it improves function, appearance, or comfort. Factors like chewing ability, discomfort, appearance concerns, and occlusal stability should be considered.
- The potential benefit of a dental prosthesis must outweigh the potential harm it may cause to remaining natural teeth. Removable partial dentures can increase risks of dental caries and periodontal disease if oral hygiene is poor.
- Poorly fitting dentures can lead to pain, discomfort, tissue reactions, and increased risk of oral disease if they cause irritation or do not allow for proper plaque removal. Regular dental checkups are important for denture wearers.
This document summarizes the aesthetic restoration of a patient's fractured upper left central incisor. Initially, the tooth had a horizontal fracture at the cervical 1/3 level subgingivally. Through a multidisciplinary approach including lingual orthodontics, gingivectomy, and composite buildup, the tooth was extruded supragingivally. This allowed for restoration with a post and crown, resolving the patient's aesthetic dental problem from the injury-caused fracture.
This document describes an alternative conservative approach to managing extensive tooth surface loss using direct composite restorations rather than traditional indirect restorations like crowns or onlays. The case study involved building up worn teeth on the right side and anterior teeth directly with composite, while allowing teeth on the un-worn left side to supra-erupt over time to make contact. This approach is described as being more conservative, economical, and less stressful than indirect restorations, though it requires more clinical skills and time and restorations may not last as long.

A patient reported to the clinic with discolored fillings and a gummy smile. Their treatment plan involved root canals, crown lengthening, and all-ceramic crowns to correct the issues and improve their smile esthetics. All-ceramic restorations were chosen as they are highly esthetic and durable while requiring minimally invasive preparation. The treatment was successful in providing the patient with a beautiful new smile.
Socket preservation is a procedure to preserve the alveolar ridge after tooth extraction by placing graft material in the extraction socket. The Bio-Col technique and socket seal surgery are two approaches that involve placing graft material and membranes in the socket to promote bone and soft tissue healing. These techniques aim to minimize ridge resorption and collapse of soft tissues after extraction. Case studies demonstrate that both techniques can successfully preserve the alveolar ridge contours and thickness for later implant placement or prosthetic restoration.
Dental softwares are used to manage time, confusion, and money in dentistry. They are used for designing and fabricating prosthetics like crowns and bridges. Some examples include TruRx for digital dentures and DWOS for crown and bridge design. T-scan software displays tooth contact data and force levels in occlusion. Computer guided technology and softwares like Nobel Guide, SurgiGuide, and Virtual Implant Placement can be used for implant planning. The document advocates for paperless dentistry using digital technologies to reduce waste and global warming.
Surgical procedures to reconstruct ridge deformities can be unpredictable and unsatisfactory. Creating a prosthetic gingiva with fixed partial dentures can be an alternative treatment for predictably reconstructing ridges, especially for patients who do not want surgery. The case presented involved a fixed partial denture with gingival ceramic to replace missing anterior teeth in a 26-year old female patient.
Provisional restorations serve as blueprints for definitive restorations by being used temporarily to plan the final restoration's form, tissue molding, and color. This document discusses using ovate pontics in provisional restorations to create a natural gingival profile for missing maxillary central incisors. A 19-year-old patient was missing her upper front teeth due to trauma and previously used a removable partial denture.

Implant abutments have evolved from titanium to zirconia to hybrid abutments made of lithium disilicate to improve esthetics while maintaining strength. Hybrid abutments and crowns combine a titanium base with a lithium disilicate crown, indicated for anterior and posterior single-tooth restorations. The lab procedure involves making a gingival mask, modeling the emergence profile, wax pattern, investing, pressing, finishing, and cementing the hybrid abutment crown. Case studies demonstrate the esthetic results and convenience of hybrid abutment crowns for gingival recession cases. Innovations in dental materials now allow achieving esthetics with implant restorations.
The document discusses restoring teeth with insufficient coronal structure after root canals. Post and core treatment replaces missing tooth structure to provide retention and resistance for crowns, restoring function and esthetics. A case study describes a patient who received post and core treatment and metal-ceramic crowns on teeth 14 and 15 that had undergone root canals and lost coronal structure. The treatment was successful in restoring the compromised teeth.
This document discusses a study that evaluated the display of maxillary anterior papilla, an important factor in determining esthetics, in a North Indian subpopulation. The study classified smile lines and interdental papilla display and found that 71.4% of people showed high interdental smile lines and 89.8% showed interdental papilla display when smiling. This highlights the importance of preserving interdental papillae during restorative dental treatments.
The document discusses the shortened dental arch concept. It describes shortened dental arches as having an intact anterior region and a reduced number of posterior teeth to provide a stable and functional dentition. The case report describes treating a 47-year old female patient with a shortened dental arch by fabricating a flexible denture to rehabilitate her missing teeth. Evaluation after treatment found good occlusal stability, satisfactory mastication, and simplified oral hygiene.
The document discusses various cosmetic dental procedures for beautifying smiles including root coverage techniques like subepithelial connective tissue grafts, gingival depigmentation methods like electrosurgery and cryosurgery, crown lengthening used as an adjunct to restorative procedures, and gingival veneers as an interim measure. It emphasizes that close attention to diagnosis and surgical steps is important to maximize predictability and optimize esthetic outcomes for patients undergoing these soft tissue procedures.
The document discusses the use of soft-tissue diode lasers for aesthetic crown lengthening. It notes that diode lasers offer unprecedented precision and hemostasis compared to traditional scalpels. The document outlines different generations of diode lasers, their wavelengths, hemostasis abilities, and cutting properties. It lists advantages like dry surgery, sterilization, reduced infection, and faster healing. Disadvantages include possible carbonization, eye injury, and lack of tactile feedback in non-contact mode. The conclusion is that diode lasers are a suitable alternative to traditional crown lengthening if used properly to minimize collateral damage.
The document discusses how Botox injections can be used in dentistry to enhance smiles. Botox works by binding to nerve endings and preventing the release of acetylcholine, inhibiting muscle contraction. It can reduce gummy smiles by weakening lip muscles, treat teeth grinding and jaw joint issues by relaxing masseter muscles, and smooth wrinkles around the mouth. While effective in the short term, results vary between sides of the face if doses are uneven. The conclusion states that combining Botox with dental treatments allows enhancing both function and aesthetics of the teeth and face.
- The periodontium and dental pulp are intimately related. Lesions can originate from infections in either tissue.
- Periodontal-endodontic lesions present a challenge to clinicians due to their complexity. An interdisciplinary approach between periodontists and endodontists is required.
- Infections can spread between the tissues through direct pathways like apical foramen or indirect pathways like root fractures. Accurate diagnosis of the primary lesion and appropriate treatment is needed.
This case presentation describes the multidisciplinary treatment of a patient who presented with anterior dental issues including old root canal treatments, caries, and misaligned teeth. The treatment involved repeat root canals, buildups, crown lengthening surgery to modify the gingival profile, new temporaries, final preparations, and delivery of zirconia crowns from teeth 13 to 23 to achieve an aesthetic rehabilitation. A multidisciplinary approach including endodontics, prosthodontics, and periodontics was used to address the dental issues.
A 12-year-old girl was missing her upper right lateral incisor. There was not enough space for a prosthesis due to the impacted position of the lateral incisor. The document describes the orthodontic extrusion procedure to bring the impacted tooth into the dental arch, including surgical exposure of the tooth, bonding a button, and using ligature wire and an auxillary spring to apply force and move the tooth into position over time. The conclusion states that orthodontic extrusion is the best solution for replacing a missing tooth when it is impacted.
In the current unstable global economy, dentists must choose cost-effective treatment plans to meet patients' demands. A patient with bone loss in the lower jaw needed new dentures. The dentist used existing teeth and Ceka ball attachments to create a lower denture that was stable and affordable. The precision attachments allowed the natural teeth to stabilize the denture, providing a predictable solution similar to implant-retained dentures at a lower cost.
A 74-year-old patient with missing teeth and a removable partial denture for 10 years wanted a fixed prosthesis. Clinical examination found root caries on teeth 11, 12, 13, 23, and 25 and existing bridges on teeth 32-43 and 44-47. The treatment plan was to place 4 implants in the upper arch and 2 in the lower arch, followed by fixed prostheses. Temporary bridges were placed. On the day of surgery, extractions and implant placements were done. After 3 months, the implants were loaded with final prostheses.
Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).
