The document proposes an algorithmic framework for detecting faces in long-wave infrared (LWIR) hyperspectral imagery. It uses a two-level approach: first detecting human skin areas using characteristic temperature and emissivity ranges, then applying statistical hypothesis testing across all bands to candidate regions to detect specific faces. Experimental results on LWIR hyperspectral data sets containing faces up to 400 feet from the sensor successfully demonstrated the proposed approach.
