 Government:
the group of people who
 are responsible for
 controlling a country or
 a state.
 To govern: to legally
 control a country or its
 people and be
 responsible for
 introducing new laws,
 organizing public
 services, etc.
 Party: a political
  organization that you
  can vote for in elections
  and whose members
  have the same aims and
  ideas.
 Poll:
   the process of
  questioning people who
  are representative of a
  larger group in order to
  get information about
  the general opinion
 President:



 the leader of a republic.
 To elect:
 to choose somebody to
 do a particular job by
 voting for them.
 To vote: to show

 paper or raising your

 Employer:
 the person who hires

 pay to the government so
 that it can pay for public
 services. People pay tax
 according to their income
 and businesses pay tax
 according to their profits.

 goods and services.

     go.
 Pothole:
   a large rough hole in
 the surface of a road that
 is formed by traffic and
 bad weather.
 Pedestrian crossing:
  a part of a road where
 vehicles must stop to
 allow people to cross.
 To reduce:
 to make something less
 or smaller in size,
 quantity, price, etc.
 Unemployment:
  the fact of a number of
 people not having a job;
 the number of people
 without a job.
 Poverty line:
 the official level of
 income that is necessary
 to be able to buy the
 basic things you need
 such as food and clothes
 and to pay for
 somewhere to live.
