Music Video Concept
“HEY BROTHER” by Avicii, Alaszka Productions
Directed by: Emily Aldred
The general feel of this music video will have an urban, built-up, everyday feel. Natural
scenery will be used alongside natural lighting to make the video feel as realistic as possible.
Two characters will be used as a brother and a sister, relating to the song lyrics. Low camera
angles will be used, avoiding the characters faces throughout, making them anonymous.
Different variety of shots will be used, from the characters to buildings. The video will be
edited to be black and white to give it a meaningful objective for the story.

A few rules I want to apply when making the music video:
It will be a narrative video, narrating the story of a brother and a sister finding their
way home.
Two actors of similar age will be needed to play the characters, who will also need
the Avicii symbol (two triangles next to each other, one upside down) on their body
which is visible, (actor playing the brother perhaps on the hand for a specific
scene*).
The two actors should also be wearing big coats, boots etc. to give the video a family
time feeling such as December, and should be wearing hoods up, hats etc. to hide
their identity.
A tripod shouldn’t be necessary as camera angles are not stood still shots.
The camera should be capturing the actors and scenery surrounding the actors.
Lighting should be natural to show the journey of the siblings.
The final, edited project should be black&white/ a dark effect.
Filming will take place in several places such as town, public transport, Cadishead
moss and Irlam locks.
Extras will be members of the public, reality.
camera shots:
A) Beginning: start from the feet of the brother, then gradually rising up his
body in a circle motion until reaching the back of the head when a train arrives.
B) Next scene is shot from the back of the sister’s head when she’s stepping of public
transport, maybe a tram in town.
C) Shots throughout the video, will be the brother and sister walking through
separate parts of town, filming them walking (whilst also capturing the scene around
them) and filming from the angle of their feet walking.
D)one specific scene will be the brother walking down the streets of town, wearing
earphones which will be clearly visible, during the beat kicking in with the song,
clapping appears in the song, the brother should start clapping* with viewers
noticing the Avicii symbol on his hand, filmed from the neck downwards to avoid
identity.
E) halfway through the song will be the brother and sister meeting up, hugging then
walking down a street then cut to walking over the locks, then cut to walking
downthe moss, then stopping at an abandoned house (which used to be their
childhood home).
F) The final shot should be the brother and sister holding up two pieces of a
photograph which is ripped in half, each sibling has a half and when the two pieces
eventually held up together, make one photograph of the two siblings outside the
abandoned house with their mother and father as a family, looking happy.

5) Locations (will we be able to film in all the locations we want)
The general feel of this music video will be an urban feel. The video will consist of two
actors, who in the video will be brother and sister, relating to the song. The video will be
the story of how the two siblings reunite together after being away from each other for a
while. The video will show the two actors making their way to an old family home which is
now abandoned down a moss. The beginning of the video will show the two actors taking
different public transport to town, then walking through separate parts of town at the same
time whilst the beat kicks in during the song. Halfway through the song, the two actors meet
and make their way back ‘home’ together, walking down a street, then over the locks then
down the moss, eventually getting to the end of the video with the two actors stood outside
the abandoned house, looking into the house then maybe showing a photograph of the two
siblings and their parents stood outside the house when they were little, the photograph
maybe could be ripped in half, each sibling having their half of the photo in their hand,
eventually re-joining the photo back together. The actors face’s will not be shown, making
the siblings anonymous, the lighting will be neutral with the whole video being in black and
white, giving it a meaningful objective.
