1. Communications and Information Technology (C&IT) - සන්නිවේදන හා ව ාරතුරු
ාක්ෂණය
The same thing as ICT but the other way around. C&IT is a peculiarly British term that
arose in Higher Education as a result of the 1997 Dearing Report and never caught on
outside the UK Higher Education environment.
ත ොරතුරු හො සන්නිතේදන ොක්‍ෂණය හො සමොන තදයක් නමුත් අතනක් පැත්ත න්න. සී ඇන්න් අයිටී

2. Computer Aided Assessment (CAA) - පරිගණක ආධාරක ක්වසේරුව
Computer-aided assessment is a term that covers all forms of assessments, whether
summative (i.e. tests that contribute to formal qualifications) or formative (i.e. tests that
promote learning but not part of a course's marking), provided with the help of computers
.Both of these covers are provided on a computer, either online or on a local network, and
those are marked with the aid of computers, such as those using Optical Mark Reading
(OMR).

3. Cache Memory- හැඹිලි ම කය
The cache contains information stored by a Web Browser on your hard disc, so that you
don't have to download the same material repeatedly from a remote computer. Browsers
keep copies of all the Web pages that you view so that the pages can be redisplayed quickly
when you go back to them.

4. Computer Aided Design / Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) - පරිගණක
ආධාරක සැලසුම් / පරිගණක ආධාරක ිෂේපාදන
A process of drafting, designing and manufacturing with the aid of a computer. CAD
enables the user to manipulate drawings, including 3D drawings, and viewing them from a
variety of angles.
පරිගණකයක ආධ්‍ොරතයන්න තකටුම්පත් කිරීම, සැලසුම් කිරීම සහ ිෂ්පොදනය කිරීතම් ක්‍රියොවලියකි.

5. Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) - පරිගණක ආධාරක උපවදසේ
CAI is an interactive instructional technique whereby a computer is used to present the
instructional material and monitor the learning that takes place. A self-learning technique,
usually offline/online, involving interaction of the student with programmed instructional
materials.
CAI යනු අන්න ර්ක්‍රියොකොරී උපතේශන ොක්‍ෂණයකි, එමඟින්න පරිගණකය උපතේශොත්මක

6. Camcorder - කැම්වකෝඩර්
A portable video camera, capable of recording live motion video for later replay through a
videocassette recorder (VCR), DVD player or computer.

In computer jargon, a card is an electronic circuit board, usually one which can be slotted
into your computer in order to fulfil a specialized function.

8. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) - කැසේකැඩින්න සේටයිල් ෂීට්
Cascading Style Sheets are a feature of HTML that enables a range of styles for headers,
body text, bullet points, links etc., to be specified for hypertext documents. This makes it
possible to set up CSS file containing a library of styles that are used throughout a website,
thereby facilitating consistency.
HTML හි අාංගයක් වන අ ර එය ශීර්ෂයන්න (headers), පොඨ (body text), බුලට් තපොයින්නට් (bullet
points), සබැඳි ආදිය සඳහො හයිපර් තටක්ස්ට් තේඛන සඳහො ිශ්චි ව දක්වො ඇ . තමමඟින්න තවේ

9. Case Sensitivity - සිද්ධි සංවේදී ාව
Used to describe how a computer program, e.g. a Browser, interprets upper- and lower-
case letters, e.g. in the name of a program, the name of a folder stored on your computer,
or the name of a website.

10. Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) - කැව ෝඩ කිරණ නලයක්
An older type of computer Display Screen or Monitor, in which beams of high-voltage
electrons are fired at a screen causing thousands of Red, Green and Blue (RGB) dots to
glow in different combinations and intensities, thus producing the full-color image
displayed on the screen. Cathode Ray Tubes are also used in older domestic TV sets.

11. Computer Based Training (CBT) - පරිගණක පාදක පුහුණුව
Computer-based training (CBT) is any course of instruction whose primary means of
delivery is a computer. A CBT course may be delivered via a software product installed on
a single computer, through a corporate or educational intranet, or over the Internet as Web-
based training.
පරිගණක පොදක පුහුණුව (CBT) යනු පරිගණකයක් ලබො දීතම් මූලික මොධ්‍යයක් වන ඕනෑම
උපතේශන පො course මොලොවකි. CBT පොඨමොලොවක් ි පරිගණකයක ස්ථොපනය කර ඇති

12. CD-ROM - සංයුක් ැටි ධාවකය
Abbreviation for Compact Disc Read Only Memory. A CD-ROM is an Optical Disc on to
which data has been written via a laser - a process often referred to as "burning a CD": A
CDROM looks much the same as an audio CD, but can contain text, sound, pictures and
motion video.

13. Central Processing Unit (CPU) - මධ්යම සැකසුම් ඒකකය
Also known as the Central Processor. In a modern computer the CPU is a single
microprocessor Chip or Microchip, an integrated circuit which carries out information
processing and calculations. In essence, the CPU is the computer's "brain".
මධ්‍යම සකසනය තලසද හැඳින්නතේ. නවීන පරිගණකයක CPU යනු ි මයිතක්‍රොතප්‍රොතසසරයක්

14. Common Gateway Interface (CGI) Script - වපාදු ද්ධවාර අතුරුමුහුණ පිටප
A term used by Web authors. A program residing on a Web Server, usually in a directory
called cgi-bin, which processes data from an HTML form.
තවේ කතුවරුන්න විසින්න භොවි ො කළ පදය. සොමොනයතයන්න HTML ආකෘතියකින්න දත් සැකතසන
CGI-bin නම් නොමොවලියක තවේ තස්වොදොයකයක වොසය කරන වැඩසටහනකි.
15. Character User Interface (CUI) - චරි පරිශීලක අතුරුමුහුණ
A Character User Interface describes a way in which a computer user communicates with
a computer by entering commands as text, i.e. in order to run programs and to carry out
other operations such as copying information from one Folder to another, deleting files.

A synchronous, mainly text-based communication facility, offering a Web-based
environment where people either drop into or arrange to meet and chat at specific times.

time who respond online in real time.

Short for Microchip or Silicon Chip.

18. Client - වසේවාදායකයා
A computer that receives services from another computer. A stand-alone computer on your
desk which you use to browse the Web is a client, and the computers from which World
Wide Web files are downloaded to your computer are servers.

19. Clipart or Clip Art - ක්ලිපාර්ට් වහෝ ක්ලිප් ආර්ට්
A collection of image files that can be embedded or inserted into Web pages, word-
processed documents, PowerPoint presentations, etc.

20. Clipboard - ක්ලිප්වබෝඩ්
A temporary storage area in a computer's memory. It may be used, for example, to store
text that you are in the process of copying and pasting from one section of a word-processed
document to another section in the same document or to another document.

21. Clock Speed - ඔරවලෝසු වේගය
The speed of a computer's Central Processing Unit (CPU), which is normally expressed in
MegaHertz (= one million cycles per second) or GigaHertz, (= 1000 MegaHertz). This
figure represents the number of instructions cycles the processor carries out each second.
In simple terms this indicates how fast the computer runs - how powerful it is.
සොමොනයතයන්න තමගො හර්ට්ස් ( ත්පරයට චක්‍ර මිලියනයක්) තහෝ ගිගො හර්ට්ස් (= තමගො හර්ට්ස්

22. Content Management System (CMS) - අන්න ර්ග කළමනාකරණ පද්ධධතිය
CMS is a software package that makes it possible for non-technical users to publish content
(text, images, etc.) on a website. Also stands for Course Management System, a type of
Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

23. Cyan Magenta Yellow (CMY) - සයන්න මැවෙන්නටා කහ
The scheme used in colour printing, where inks of the subtractive primary colours Cyan,
Magenta and Yellow are combined to produce millions of other colours. Most colour
printers also have a black ink cartridge, both for monochrome printing and to produce a
true black in colour printing.

24. Compressor / Decompressor or Coder / Decoder (CODEC) - සම්ීඩකය / විසංවයෝෙනය
වහෝ වකෝඩර් / විවක් කය
A CODEC is software that is used to compress or decompress a digital audio or video file.
CODECs are additional pieces of software that operate in conjunction with different media
players, and certain types of audio and video recordings will only play back if the relevant
CODEC is running in conjunction with the media player that you are using.

25. Collaborative Writing - සහවයෝගි ා ලිවීම
A process that involves the creation and editing documents using Web 2.0 tools designed
for use by multiple authors, e.g. Google Documents or Zoho Writer. Such tools look, act
and feel like normal word processors, but simplify the process of sharing and viewing
documents.

The number of colours that can be displayed at any one time on a computer Display Screen.
Modern computers can display a range of millions of colours, producing very high-quality
images.

27. Combination Drive - සංවයෝෙන ධාවකය
A Disc Drive that is capable of reading and writing to CD-ROMs, audio CDs and DVDs.
සාංයුක් ැටි, ශ්‍රවය ැටි සහ ඩීවීඩී කියවීමට හො ලිවීමට හැකියොව ඇති ැටි ධ්‍ොවකය.
28. Comms - වකාම්සේ
Short for communications, as in Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Used to refer to ways in which computer systems communicate with one another, e.g. via
a cable, a telephone line, satellite or wireless.

Pieces of hardware and/or software which are capable of being used together are described
as compatible.

30. Compiler - සම්පාදකයා
A program which converts programs written in a high-level programming language, i.e. as
used by professional human programmers, into Machine Code, a language that can be
"understood" by a computer.
උසස් මට්ටතම් ක්‍රමතේඛන භොෂොවකින්න ලියො ඇති වැඩසටහන්න, එනම් වෘත්තීය මොනව

31. Compression - සම්ීඩනය
A technique which reduces the amount of space required to store data, e.g. as used to reduce
the amount of space needed to store an image, an audio recording, or a video recording.

A term used mainly in the business world. Implies a top-down, trainer-centered approach
to teaching with computers and is closely associated with Programmed Learning.

organization, storage, structuring and retrieval of messages.

Used to describe a computer program which is supplied as an "empty shell", i.e. without
content such as texts, images, audio recordings, or video recordings. The user (i.e. the
teacher) is expected to provide the content, and the program then enables to content to be

A piece of information stored on a user's computer by a Web Browser when the user visits
a website for the first time. Websites use cookies to recognize users who have previously
