This document provides a list of over 20 examples of artworks, projects, and technologies that involve satellite imagery, aerial photography, virtual globes, and other forms of remote sensing and surveillance. Some of the projects mentioned include Google Earth, maps of US strip clubs and UFO sightings, a wingsuit flight over London, neighborhood satellites, and artworks that reflect on surveillance and advertising from above. The document briefly raises concerns about potential issues with technologies like advertising brooms or software faults in common tools.
During a 7-week digital practices project, the document discusses how Lucy Hughes learned to use Adobe Photoshop, 3D Max, and AutoCAD. In Photoshop, she learned to add textures to images and create mood boards and photomontages. With 3D Max, she created a 3D model of a stage set for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" that could be viewed from different angles. AutoCAD was useful for creating technical drawings and 2D designs. Overall, Lucy found the project helpful for learning new design software skills, though some programs like 3D Max and AutoCAD were more difficult given her lack of prior experience with them.

Coming Up: Ten challenges for workforce development. Presentation by Barb McP...Jo Kay
Businesses and workplaces are very different to how they were 10, even just 5 years ago. Critics of our national training system suggest competencies are out of date. Are they? Or, is it our approaches to learning and our understanding of what constitutes training that is now out of step with the needs we claim to address? At what point do the national VET system, workforce development needs and culture of organisational learning intersect? Siemens and Wegner, familiar to VET practitioners on the Australian conference circuit 2005-2006, promote connectivism-network learning theory, and communities of practice respectively as relevant alternatives to traditional classroom learning. In this presentation, Barb McPherson a veteran of six Australian Flexible Learning Framework initiatives since 2002 considers ten challenges to workforce development and how RMT is responding and preparing for change.
The document discusses strategies for improving the effectiveness of global virtual teams. It recommends developing collective competence through collaboration on joint tasks. Key challenges for virtual teams include reduced visibility and complexity due to geographical dispersion and cultural diversity. Strategies suggested include clearly defining team roles and processes, choosing communication technologies suited to task complexity, and facilitating trust and open communication.
This document discusses a new core IT course at Babson College that aims to support entrepreneurial activities and organizational success through technology. Trends discussed for 2012 include mobile/consumer technology, software as a service, cloud computing, virtualization, and the importance of developing strategies for mobile, Windows 8, and social media.
The document discusses Open Computer Testing (OCT), an assessment method where students can use any online resources, including search engines and social media, to answer exam questions. It notes that OCT reflects how students learn and access information today. The key takeaways are that OCT for schools can drive instruction toward 21st century skills, for teachers it requires redesigning assessments to evaluate higher-order thinking over memorization, and for students it can be more authentic, motivating and develop important real-world skills when questions are well-designed.

3) There are some challenges to e-learning research including tensions between different disciplinary perspectives, a lack of shared language and theoretical rigor, and tensions between research and practical implementation.
The document discusses research on e-learning for small businesses. It provides findings from a literature review and survey of 300 small businesses. The research found that while small businesses have internet access, training is focused on short informal sessions and learning on the job. Barriers to e-learning included time, effectiveness concerns, and cost.
