Third Annual Peter D. Stevens Course on Innovations in Digestive CareBradley Jobling
The Third Annual Peter D. Stevens Course on Innovations in Digestive Care is a two-day course held in New York City on April 10-11, 2014 that covers the latest technologies and minimally invasive procedures in digestive care. The course is divided into sessions on the esophagus, pancreas, GI lumen, colon and rectum, and hepatobiliary system, and includes didactic sessions, hands-on labs, and live surgery demonstrations. The course aims to keep clinicians knowledgeable about new innovations and is held in honor of the late Dr. Peter D. Stevens, a leader in the field of digestive care at Columbia University.
A hospital implemented a fast track colorectal surgery program to reduce patients' length of stay and improve recovery. The program utilized evidence-based practices like pre-operative education, early mobilization, and optimized pain relief. For 24 patients, the median length of stay decreased from 10 to 6 days with no adverse events. A patient satisfaction survey found high approval of the fast track approach. The program was expanded to involve more surgeons and showed potential to reduce hospital bed usage.
The document discusses the risks and outcomes of Roux-en-Y (RNY) gastric bypass compared to mini-gastric bypass (MGB). It summarizes several studies that found RNY had higher rates of death, leaks, complications, reoperations, and bleeding compared to MGB. A recent randomized controlled trial of RNY found a high rate of serious complications (37%) including a 3.3% leak rate and one patient who suffered sepsis, brain injury and amputation. In contrast, studies of over 1,000 MGB patients found a much lower complication rate of 2.7%, with only 0.5% leaks and excellent long-term weight loss and diabetes resolution outcomes.

Best Hernia Surgeon in Delhi - Dr. Vivek Bindal.pdfdr vivek bindal
Dr. Vivek Bindal is the Best Robotic and Bariatric Surgeon in Delhi. He is a pioneer surgeon in the field of Robotic and Bariatric Surgery in South East Asia. He has one of the most extensive series of robotic bariatric procedures, has published extensively, and is routinely invited as an expert in this field worldwide. A surgeon is committed to the welfare of patients as the first objective and strongly believes in sharing knowledge by teaching and training. He is one of the best Robotic and Bariatric Surgeons in Delhi NCR.
General surgeons in 2010 will need to focus on treating diseases comprehensively rather than just performing operations. Technological advances have allowed other specialties to perform procedures traditionally done by surgeons. Surgeons risk losing practice volumes unless they view themselves as treating overall patient health. Training and practice models will need to adapt to changing healthcare systems focused on quality, safety, and meeting patient and societal needs.

Dr. Jeffrey Milsom and Dr. Fred Cornhill lead the Minimally Invasive New Technologies (MINT) program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center to develop new endolumenal surgical techniques and technologies. Their goal is to transform digestive disease surgery by performing procedures entirely within the intestine using their Endolumenal Surgical Platform (ESP). ESP and future platforms will allow complex procedures to be done without incisions, improving patient outcomes and safety while lowering costs. The MINT team's innovations have the potential to redefine care for common digestive diseases and conditions that currently require open or laparoscopic surgery.

This document summarizes the safety of bariatric surgery based on a presentation. It discusses the history and evolution of bariatric procedures, common procedures and their complications. It reviews evidence from large studies like LABS-1 and a 2014 meta-analysis that showed bariatric surgery has low 30-day mortality rates of 0.3-0.8% and major complication rates of 4.3-17%. While gastric bypass has higher weight loss, gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy have lower mortality and complication risks. The document concludes bariatric surgery is very safe, with gastric bypass having a 30-day mortality risk one-tenth of cardiovascular surgery.
The document discusses plans to establish a uro-gynecology and pelvic floor disorders center at Al Zahra Hospital in Dubai. It outlines that currently there are no dedicated uro-gynecology centers or subspecialist consultants in the UAE. The proposed center would be led by a dual-accredited uro-gynecology consultant and would provide specialized clinics and treatments for a wide range of conditions using evidence-based care pathways. It would establish the gold standard for care of conditions like incontinence and prolapse across the UAE. The center aims to set up robust governance, education, and data collection to help more women.

Pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung, is a condition that occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall. This air buildup puts pressure on the lung, preventing it from expanding fully when you breathe. A pneumothorax can cause a complete or partial collapse of the lung.

End-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) is the level of carbon dioxide that is released at the end of an exhaled breath. ETCO2 levels reflect the adequacy with which carbon dioxide (CO2) is carried in the blood back to the lungs and exhaled.
Non-invasive methods for ETCO2 measurement include capnometry and capnography. Capnometry provides a numerical value for ETCO2. In contrast, capnography delivers a more comprehensive measurement that is displayed in both graphical (waveform) and numerical form.

5. What is ileoanal pouch (J-pouch) surgery?
• It is a complex operation to replace a very

Thanks to the J-pouch, patients do not
require the stoma bag
• In UK hospitals, this operation takes place on
average once a year.
• UK surgeons who perform pouch surgery, will
often perform only 1 procedure every 5
