by Rosemary Olive Mbone Enie, Executive Director, SHE Tanzania. Session is part of a series of sessions presented at Humentum's Capacity for Humanity conference in Arusha, Tanzania February 2018. How can African communities promote the SDGs and Africa Agenda 2063? What roles can NGOs play in this process?
The study was carried out to explore the relationship between entrepreneurship and sustainable development in
Nigeria based on the Dangote phenomenon. Entrepreneurship implicates the state of being an entrepreneur. The
entrepreneurship process leads to employment generation and poverty reduction all of which help in sustainable
development, which is the type of development that protects the environment, meets the current needs of society and
also enables future generations to meet their own needs. Entrepreneurship is concerned with change because it is
capable of creating opportunities and threats. The consequences of change may present viable business opportunities
or render current products or services obsolete. Therefore, a meaningful entrepreneurship research must provide
necessary information about successful entrepreneurs as a guide. The qualitative case study approach was employed
for the study, empirical literature provided relevant information for analysis and it was found that entrepreneurship
has significant positive relationship with sustainable development.
YOUNG PEOPLE AND CHALLENGES OF AGRICULTURE: AN OVERVIEW OF UNDERGRADUATE STUD...IAEME Publication
Young people who have the strength required to take up agriculture shy-away
from the work, leaving it to an ageing and dying population of old farmers, the
continuation of this will force us to wonder what the fate of agriculture would be in
Nigeria. Agricultural development specialists and policymakers around the world are
concerned with the fact that young people are not interested in agriculture, as
agriculture is very crucial to the current economic status of Nigeria. A sample of 384
respondents from the population was drawn using multistage sampling method and 40
in-depth interviews. Five research questions were raised in the study and two
hypotheses were generated and tested (at 0.05 level of significance) using the chisquare inferential statistical method. Data were collected using a well-structured
questionnaire; the research design was a descriptive survey. While the theories used
for this research are the social exchange and rational choice theory. The major
finding of the research showed there is no significant relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics of young people and their level of involvement in farm
practice, while there was a significant relationship between the benefits attached to
farm practice and the level of students’ involvement.
Task Force On Sustainable Lifestyles PresentationTom Gater
Lifestyles are part of our identity; people express their social position, political preferences and psychological aspirations to others through them. Lifestyles define and differentiate us. They are the way we live our lives.
Lifestyles are shaped by a whole host of factors. Their roots are in culture, politics, economics and social norms. For sustainable lifestyles to enter our cultures and societies, to become part of our everyday life, they must be developed at all levels. They need to be enabled and encouraged by the social and technical systems and institutions that surround us. People will only swap their car for public transport if there’s an efficient and cost-effective public transport system.
