1.0 HYSTERESIS CURVE
The above figure demonstrates the relationship between flux density-B and magnetization force-H of a
ferromagnetic material. initially the material is in its normal state which means its not being magnetized
hence B=0 and H=0.we plot the relation between B and H in such a way that X- axis represents the
magnetization force(H) and Y-axis represents flux density (B).
So here we study what happens to the flux density in the material if the magnetization force is increased
and also decreased. so in the beginning we increase magnetization force to a positive value and hence
we can see there is a steep increase in the flux density and further when H is increased the increment in
flux density becomes gradually slow that it reaches a saturated state which shows there is no further
increment in B(flux density) after a particular level of H is increased. hence the curve Oa represents the
saturation level.
now if the magnetization force is reduce flux density is also reduced but when the magnetization force is
reduced and reach to 0 level, flux density doesn’t reach to ‘0’ level instead it attains a positive value due
to the residual magnetism effect in the ferromagnetic material. hence Ob represents residual
magnetism.
Now in order to bring down the flux density in the material to ‘0’ level, magnetization force is reduced.
hence ‘Oc’ represents the force required to bring down the attained flux density when the magnetization
force is ‘0’ which is called as coercive force. now further if the magnetization force is reduced flux
density also reduced but after a further level of decrement in magnetization force flux density won’t
reduce any more which means it has reached the saturation state hence ‘Od’ represents saturation level
in negative direction.

As we get know any further decrement in magnetization force won’t bring any decrement in flux density
we increase the magnetization force from the negative direction, the flux density increases, and when H
becomes ‘0’,then the flux density also should come to ‘0’ level, but instead of ‘0’ value the flux density
attains a negative level when the magnetization force is 0.hence ‘Oe’ represents residual magnetism in
negative state. further when magnetization force is increased flux density increases and becomes
0.hence ‘Of’ represents coercive force in positive direction further increment in magnetization force
increases the flux density hence completes the curve reaching the saturation level. hence the whole
curve can be called as hysteresis curve or B-H curve.
