2. 17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the
disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make
preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
18 He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The
Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate
the Passover with my disciples at your house.’”
19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared
the Passover.
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the
Twelve.
21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you
will betray me.”
3. 22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other,
“Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”
23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with
me will betray me.
24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that
man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had
not been born.”
25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t
mean me, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said so.”

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given
thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat;
this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to
them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for
the forgiveness of sins.
29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until
that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
5. And when they had sung A HYMN, they went out into the
mount of Olives – Matthew 26: 30
The Psalm Sang at
the Last Supper
While Scripture doesn’t explicitly state which hymn was sang,
Jewish tradition reveals that the Passover meal was concluded
by singing the last portion of the Hallel. The Hallel is comprised
of Psalms 113 through 118. It is a joyous celebration of praise
and thanksgiving to God.

Hymns play an essential role
in conversion, devotion, and
revelation
PAUL WROTE
Colossians 3:16 – “Let the word of Christ dwell
in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and
admonishing one another in PSALMS and
HYMNS and SPIRITUAL SONGS, singing with
grace in your hearts to the Lord”.
Ephesians 5:19. The Lord Jesus knew the
value of hymns, hence the singing of a hymn
to round off the Communion Table, shortly
before He commenced the Journey to the
cross.

7. KNOW YOU WHAT A HYMN IS? Reading:
Matthew
26:17-30
It is a song with praise of God. If you praise
God and do not sing, you do not utter a
hymn: if you sing and do not praise God, you
do not utter a hymn: if you praise anything
else, which pertains not to the praise of
God, although you sing and praise, you
utter no hymn. A hymn then contains these
three things, song, and praise, and that of
God. Praise then of God in song is called a
hymn.

The Hymn
a song used in Christian worship,
usually sung by the congregation
and characteristically having a
metrical, strophic (stanzaic),
nonbiblical text. Similar songs, also
generally termed hymns, exist in all
civilizations; examples survive, for
instance, from ancient Sumer and
Greece

Your word is a lamp for my
feet, a light on my path. -
Psalm 119:105
"Thy Word" is a song written by Amy Grant and
Michael W Smith. Michael initially came up with the
melody and some words for the chorus from
David's Psalms about being a light into my path.
Amy loved the demo but had to write the verses
herself. While staying at Caribou Ranch, Amy was
inspired to write the verses after getting lost in the
dark and finding her way back to her cabin by
following a lamp.

16. What a Friend We
Have in Jesus
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_a_Friend_We_Have_in_Jesus
a Christian hymn originally written by
preacher Joseph M. Scriven as a poem
in 1855 to comfort his mother, who was
living in Ireland while he was in Canada.
Scriven originally published the poem
anonymously, and only received full
credit for it in the 1880s. The tune to
the hymn was composed by Charles
Crozat Converse in 1868.

18. Charles Wesley, the younger
brother of Methodist founder
John Wesley, wrote 8,989
hymns. Wesley wrote an
average of 10 lines of verse
every day for 50 years, and
completed a hymn every
other day. During his life, he
never heard his fellow
Methodists sing his hymns in
Sunday worship. At the time,
Methodists were still part of
the Anglican Church, and the
Church of England did not
officially approve the singing
of hymns until 1820—32
years after Wesley’s death.
