INTRODUCTION
My family has faced many challenges over the years. In May of 2014, during the surfacing of a new and daunting challenge, I determined to read the Book of Psalms, one Psalm per day. I started on May 9, 2014 and finished on October 29, 2014. There are 150 Psalms. Since there were some days I missed in this endeavor, I completed the readings in 174 days.
My routine was to read and outline each chapter in a way to help me understand what the Psalmist is saying. I added some words and substituted some words for clarity and emphasis - - such as, I replaced “He” with “the Lord” to give emphasis to the name of the Lord. Since this was a means to increase my own faith, I was not concerned with this being a perfect literary work or the words being exactly as stated in the Psalm. I was concerned with retaining the meaning of each phrase, thus, changes and additions were carefully considered. I was concerned with my family being further enabled to overcome the challenges we face.
After I finished outlining each Psalm, I posted it in a journal style on a Facebook page that I have called “The Prayer Room” (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Prayer-Room/571854196193443). The intent is to provide this work to anyone who wants to partake in what I am doing.
As I progressed, I decided that I would put each Psalm into a journal for future reference. Thus, this document was developed over the period of my reading. I call it “A Daily Message and Journey”.
All Psalms were read and recorded using the New King James version. When I did not understand what was said, I referred to other versions, such as, King James, The Message, and The Living Bible. If the version is not stated for a Psalm, then it is from the New King James. When other versions are recorded, the version is stated. In those cases, I recorded both versions of the Psalm.
During this journey, I learned that the Psalms are ordered in “The 5 Fold Division of the Torah”. I provide information on that in the pages following the Table of Contents. The divisions are:

THE BOOK OF PSALMS 5 SECTIONS IMITATING THE 5 FOLD DIVISION OF THE TORAH http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psalms BENEDICTIONS AND SUPERSCRIPTIONS The Book of Psalms is divided into five sections, each closing with a doxology (i.e., a benediction) – These divisions were probably introduced by the final editors to imitate the 5 fold division of the Torah:  Book 1 Psalms 1 to 41  Book 2 Psalms 42 to 72  Book 3 Psalms 73 to 89  Book 4 Psalms 90 to 106  Book 5 Psalms 107 to 150[4] Many psalms (116 of the 150) have individual superscriptions (titles), ranging from lengthy comments to a single word. Over 1/3 appear to be musical directions, addressed to the "leader" or "choirmaster," including such statements as "with stringed instruments" and "according to lilies." Others appear to be references to types of musical composition, such as "A psalm" and "Song," or directions regarding the occasion for using the psalm ("On the dedication of the temple," "For the memorial offering," etc.). Some carry the names of individuals, the most common being David, and 13 of these relate explicitly to incidents in the king's life.[5]

Each section of the book of Psalms
corresponds to the first five books of the Old Testament, The Pentateuch.
There appears to be a format that leads us through the Psalms in the same way that Moses led his readers from Creation in Genesis to Israel’s entrance into the Promised Land in Deuteronomy.
In some respect the book of Psalms can also be seen as
a history of Israel from King David to the Restoration and the Millennial Kingdom. The first chapter of each section gives us a preface to what is to follow, while
The last chapter is in form of a doxology or a hymn of praise to God.
These are probably sets of songs used at different periods and were added to as more were composed. There is also a possibility that they were songs used by various groups throughout Israel but were eventually brought together. The first option seems the most likely in the light of
Psalm 72:20 - “The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.”

BOOK 1: PSALMS 1 to 41
There are 41 Psalms in this section and most are composed by David.
Psalms 1, 2, 10, and 33 are anonymous but are usually attributed to David.
They reflect much of David’s life and his understanding of the glory of God.
Psalm 1 sets the scene for this book, that is, the man blessed by God is the one who is obedient to His word, while the sinner rejects it and receives His judgment.
Psalm 9 David speaks of the Lord as the God who has the power to deliver from the enemy.
Psalm 10 David knows that God hears and answers prayer.
Psalm 23 David reveals God as the Great Shepherd who watches faithfully over His people.
Psalm 24, David praises Him who is the King of Glory.
Psalm 36, David reveals the God who hates sin but loves those who trust in Him is seen.
Psalm 41, the closing thought of the section speaks of the blessed person as well. It doxology reads, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting. Amen, and Amen”. We notice here the double Amen.
This group of Psalms relates to the Book of GENESIS. From the perfection of those who are blessed by God we are led to the Salvation of the Lord. Along the way we see the consequences of man’s fall from God and his need for redemption. We see the depravity of man, and how great the love of God is towards the sinner, David asks, “What is man” that God should pay any attention to him? (Psalm 8).
The divine name that is mainly used within this section is Jehovah (LORD).
Every kind of emotion is revealed in these Psalms; from suffering and sorrow to joy and praise.
The psalmist praises God for His justice and love in all of His dealings with man.
BOOK 2: PSALMS 42 TO 72
There are 31 Psalms in this section.
David wrote 18 of them,
Solomon wrote 1 (Psalm 72), and
the rest (12) were written by Korah.
These Psalms were compiled for Tabernacle and Temple services.
David wants us to have a sense of wonder when we worship the Lord, but they also contain prayers of deliverance.
The divine name that is predominantly used in this book is El or Elohim (God). This is called the EXODUS section, for in them we get a sense of the nation in ruin but calling out to God for deliverance. They speak of how God is able to rescue His people. Psalm 42 sets the scene by crying out for God’s presence in a dry wilderness experience.
The Psalmist continually appeals to God for deliverance from the enemy who is oppressing their soul.
Psalm 72, the book finishes with a prayer of Solomon (72). The final verses also praise God for His power and might, and His glory.
There is the double Amen again.

There are 17 Psalms in this section.
While Asaph appears to have written (14) most of them,
David wrote Psalm 86,
Heman the Ezraite wrote Psalm 88, and
Ethan the Ezraite wrote Psalm 89.
The divine title used by the psalmist is mainly El or Elohim (God).
This section relates to LEVITICUS due in part to the fact that most of the Psalms were written by Levitical priests. These were written to be sung by the temple choirs (liturgical songs).
These Psalms remind us that God alone is holy and that we should remember our place before Him. When we come into God’s presence (i.e. the temple) we should have reverential fear. Psalm 73, the introduction to this book announces, “Truly God is good to Israel” (73:1).
God has been just in all of His dealings with the nation of Israel despite the sufferings that the people often went through.
Psalm 89, the doxology also has the double Amen, and speaks of the fact that God has kept His covenant with David, therefore He should be worshipped and praised (89).
These 17 Psalms are anonymous
except for Psalm 90 written by Moses, and
Psalm 101 and Psalm 103 being written by David.
These too were composed for public worship.
In line with the Pentateuch this section would relate to NUMBERS. Numbers describes the Kingdom of Israel in relation to its neighbors, these Psalms reveal that it is God’s kingdom that rules over all. There are also pre-captivity sentiments, but the emphasis is on praise toward God for His blessings.
The name used for God in this section is mainly Jehovah (LORD). Psalm 90, the introduction to the section declares confidence in God as Protector of His people (90). The theme of this section is about the steadfastness and faithfulness of God.
Psalm 106, the doxology praises God for the way He has led Israel until the present day, and declares that He never changes, He is “from everlasting to everlasting”.
This time the doxology closes with Amen and Hallelujah (Praise the Lord).

BOOK 5: PSALMS 107 TO150
This section contains 44 Psalms.
15 are ascribed to David and
1 to Solomon (Psalm 127).
These Psalms praise God for His word.
Thanksgiving is the major theme of this book. God wants the most perfect sacrifice of all, our faithfulness and obedience to His revealed will. This is similar to the book of DEUTERONOMY since it speaks of a new beginning in the Promised Land. These Psalms express the thoughts, prayers, and experiences of the captives and their return to Jerusalem.
‘Jehovah’ is used as the divine name in this last section of the Psalms Psalm 107 is the introduction to the section. It acknowledges the delivering power of God.
Psalm 150, the doxology is found in Psalm 150 but really should include Psalms 145-150.
They thank God in every possible way for His goodness towards His people.
Hallelujah ends this final section as a note of joyfulness and gladness.

The Psalmist must have been under great oppression to say so much about "the wicked". The Psalmist seems to say much less about "The Lord", "God", but yet he has confidence that "The Lord", his "God" will "Arise" and oppose "the oppression" and "bring justice".

“The Wicked” are Spoken of Much in Psalms 1 to 10
SELAH - MEDITATE - CONSIDER!
In "The Prayer Room", the last 10 posts have been prayers that are the first 10 Psalms of the Bible.
As I did each post, I read many statements about "the wicked", what they do, how they act, what they say, how they oppress.......over and over. Then I read some statements about how God delivers from that oppression. There and many more statements about "the wicked" than there are about God. Why is that?
David was surely under great oppression to repeat what "the wicked" do so many times. He listed those items. He finally got around to God, knowing that He had the answer.
Who are "the wicked"? Are they spiritual enemies? Are they physical enemies? Are people wicked? How do we deal with that, in the spirit and in the physical?
Who wants to even say the words "the wicked". It's not how we usually talk about people. But, there are people who are not interested in your well being. There are people who will lie, cheat, steal, murder, and do all sorts of "wicked" things. They may even try to do those things to you.
So what do we do with "the wicked". I need to consider that more, but firstly, go to God in a prayer, go to God in Psalms, and express your heart to Him . . . then as He promises, He will bring judgment and release you from oppressions. He will. He says He will if we trust in Him.
"Fear not, for I am with you, says The Lord."

As I consider all the horrible things that are happening today, in our country and around the world, then as I read this Psalm 11, I must consider what God is thinking about what is happening, about how far we have gone from His ways to our own ways.
The title for this Psalm includes the word "TREACHERY". Is man "treacherous" in many of his ways. I would have to say yes. Many have cast off moral restraints. Many celebrate in their immorality. Why do they not know right from wrong? Why do they call right things to be wrong, and wrong things to be right? Is it because of the "CONSTANCY" of God ..... He never changes, He never makes right wrong, and wrong right. Right is right and wrong is wrong? RIGHTEOUSNESS is righteousness and SIN is sin.

The Prayer Room May 31 Saturday, May 31, 2014, 8:57 am TODAY's PRAYER IS FOR A New Day A Right Purpose Doing It God's Way Father, Something needs to change in me. Something needs to be refocused in me. Show me how to do that. Show me what to do. Put Your thoughts in my head. Put Your purposes for me in clear view. Father, It seems that I need a new start. It seems that I need a change, an adjustment. What needs to be new? What needs to be adjusted? I cannot do this rightly on my own. I cannot do this rightly without Your Spirit. Father, My ways have not worked. My ways are not Your ways. I live in the natural. I need to live in the supernatural. Show me how. Show me Your steps for me. Father, You made me.
