Fracturing
Applications
Overview
Case Description
Innovation and technology within the completions industry generates less
exposure to risk, less non-productive time, and more competitive pricing. In
an effort to increase efficiency and streamline the fracturing process,
combination units are proving to be useful tools in the completions industry.
In the past, two units were needed to complete the gel hydration process.
Consolidating the two units in to one is a more reliable and efficient process
to achieve dry guar blend and solution viscosity.
Case History
Fracturing – A Sanjel Specialized Energy Service
Coiled Tubing & Nitrogen Services
Increasing focus on pricing in the oil and gas industry has challenged the
industry to look for ways to improve efficiency and reliability. Sanjel’s
engineering design team developed the combination hydration and dry
guar skid to decrease road exposure, increase personnel effectiveness
and safety, as well as decrease cost.
Sanjel’s first successful use of the combination unit was for a major operator in
the Bakken. The use of the combination unit allowed for:
 Less spill risk, and less spill containment needed on location due to
decreased area needed on location
 Better supply pressure to the blender, decreasing wear on blender
centrifugal pump
 Less 4” suction hoses, decreasing safety risk
 Greater control over dry gel mixture and gel hydration, as well as all-
encompassing monitoring capabilities
 Zero non-productive time due to hydration unit
In addition to the combination unit providing operational distinction, it also
provides the ability to add future fluid system designs to Sanjel’s already
extensive capabilities through the use of liquid and dry add pumps throughout
the process. The unit will also help in providing valuable information needed for
production and reserve analysis, as well as real time monitoring.
Overall, the streamlined, simple, design allowed for Sanjel’s team to fracture the
well with an average pump time of 3 hours per zone, including wireline runs.
Major advantages include cost effectiveness, safety and reliability over the
traditional methods used a true testament to Sanjel’s design engineering team.
