HUNGER (2015)
Passion and ignorance. Comfort and shame. Succeeding and relaxing. The key
to gain health and to lose it. Overwhelming amount of choices and artificial
needs. Food.
Food includes many values and conseptions in our culture – diets have became
more and more importand part of our identity. We are creating more needs
than just feeding ourselves to be full. Producing food causes suffer and
ecological burden. Food is taken for granted. Food is a huge business. Buying a
food can, which costs less than one euro and a fruit brought from another side
of the world seems normal to us.
Diets and body is now fashion. An individual should be able to change her/his
habits and appearance to fit the current trend. Food has become an obsession.
Food has become a game far from reality. Game, where some people die of
overeating and some die of hunger.
Saara Tikka is a first year student from Turku Art Academy. She started to
work with Hunger after seeing how much was thrown away from a single
market in a one day.
