Human trafficking is a significant problem in Hawaii. There are an estimated thousands of females trafficked for sex each year, with about 150 known brothels on Oahu housing 3 to 15 girls each. Forced labor also impacts the state, with aliens smuggled in and forced to work long hours under dangerous conditions on fishing boats for very low pay. Additionally, the average age of girls trafficked for sex in Hawaii is only 12 years old, highlighting the severe issue of child sex trafficking.
