• Human environment is overarching theme in
the study of geography that concerns the
many relationship ,both positive and
negative ,between people and their
surroundings.. This examination includes
how depend on and modify the environment
and how people adapt behaviorally and
physically in response to the environment .
• The study of human environment focuses
more on group of people or cultures rather
than on individuals. Therefore ,human
environment looks at the interplay between
human social systems and larger
ecosystem..
• The majority of scientist believe there is
evidence that human activities contributed
to the going changes in global temperature
and climates.
• Its thought that human environment first
assumed a significant role about 700,000
years ago,when our ape like ancestors
understood the use of fire. The year
1984,the national council of geographic
Education and association of american
geographics decided that geography should
be thouhgt in the US using a system called
FIVE THEMES OF GEOGRAPHY.

Human environment enteraction - is
phenomenon which describe how human beings
interact to the environment to obtain their needs
from it and how the environment in turn
responds to this interaction.
1.DEPENDS- human depend on the environment
to obtain resources for their survival as well as
development of their civilization.
2.ADAPT- human have adapt to those condition
in the environment which they cannot modify to
insure fulfillment of their needs. example such as
condition includes building , houses on higher
ground in flood prone areas using the natural
slope of the land to transport water irrigation.
• 3.MODIFY- human can modify the
environment to make it easier to extract
resources so that their needs to fulfilled in
a better way.
• These human environment mostly
produced positive effects for society
but they also have far-reaching
consequences on the environment.

• 1. DEPEND- Most of the chinese population
depends on the environment for survival as well
as economic stability as the prodominant
occupational in the country is agriculture which
requiresfertile soil and access to land .

country by using these for drinking water and
irrigation.
• 3.MODIFY- EXAMPLES how the country has
modified its environment includes terrace
farming and construction od dams for flood
prevention and power generation.

1. DEPEND- since ancient time,the egyptian
have depends on the ample resources of
fish found in the NILE RIVER FOR FOODS.
2. ADAPT- people adapted to the annual
floods by rebuilding their houses after
every flood. Later they began constructing
house above the flood plains where they
would not be inundated.
3. MODIFY- to provides water for agriculture
they constructed irrigation channel from
the nile to their crops.

• 1.DEPEND- INDIA being an agricultural
country depends to large extends on its land
for agriculture which feeds its large
population and generates revenue.
• 2. ADAPT- farmers use the fertile plains
drained by the rich river network for
agriculture.
• 3. MODIFY- the country modify the
environment by utilizing the abundance of
streams and rivers to dispose sewage and
industrial effluents.
• D.GERMANY
• 1. DEPEND-considered to be one of the most
industrialized nation in europe and the world
germany depends on the environment for
timber, salt, potash, uranium, copper, iron ,
natural gas, and other deposits, which fuels
large number of industries.
• 2.ADAPT- the country has adapted to its varied
environment. NORTHERN GERMANY has access
to the NORTH and BALTIC SEA and hence
fishery is a common occupation in this part.
• 3.MODIFY- GERMANY has a large network of
highways and streets which facilitates rapid
transport and communication apart from a
large number of industries.
• E. MALAYSIA
• 1. DEPEND- MALAYSIA has depend on
the fertility and availability of land for
cultivation of palm and rubber trees.
• 2.ADAPT- since MALAYSIA has a high
concentration of tropical rainforest
these provides an ideal climates for
plantations.
• 3.MODIFY- The country has modified its
environment in various ways to ensure
its economic development.

• 1. DEPEND- The country depends on its resources to
obtain food and drinking water, apart from coal and
other ores like bauxites , zinc, uranium, antinomy,
arsenic and feldspar.
• 2. ADAPT- the people to the varied climatic
condition in the region by wearing different
clothing..
• 3. MODIFY- People modify the environment to suit
their needs. The ski tracks of the alps draw a large
number of tourist every year.
• G. NORTH KOREA
• 1. DEPEND- the country depends on the fertility
of the land for agriculture( rice, soybeans,
potatoes , etc.) which produces food for
population and support the economy.
• 2. ADAPT- NORTH KOREAN have to adapt to
environmental challenges like periodic drought
and floods which leads the famines.
• 3. MODIFY- the people have modified the
environmental by clearing land for timber,
construction and cultivation .
• H. NIGERIA

• 1. DEPEND – NIGERIANS depends on soil fertility to
grow crops which provides foods and economic
security. Besides the country also depends on it coal ,
oils, and natural gas reserve for trades which provides
revenue to the country.
• 2. ADAPT- the people have adapt to the arid by
feeding weeds to livestock and fertilizing the soil with
manure.
• 3. MODIFY- two example by which they modify the
environment is by drilling holes in the ground to
extract fuel like coal, oil, and natural gas.

• 1. DEPEND- around 1/5 of the country
population is dependent on agriculture . The
country also, needs timber, tools, medicines ,
and other products from it tropical forests.
• 2. ADAPT- the country has adapted to its moist
tropical climate by cultivating water intensive
crops like rice and sugarcane.
• 3.MODIFY- The country has modified its
environment by clearing large section its
rainforest to enable cultivation and obtain
timber.

• 1. DEPEND- THE ECONOMY OF ITALY depends
on export of wine, agriculture products ,
construction supplies, and footwear.

climate by building houses suited to life along
the coast and including fish and their diet.

this region have used aqueducts to transport
freshwater to their crops and home.
