The document discusses hull bio-fouling, which is the accumulation of marine growth on ship hulls. It notes that fouling can occur in three forms depending on temperature and water quality. Fouling causes problems like increased fuel consumption and the need for dry docking to remove growth. The document provides information on causes of fouling and solutions like underwater ship hull cleaning services provided by AIM Control in Vietnam.
The document discusses hull bio-fouling, which is the accumulation of marine growth on ship hulls. It notes that fouling can occur in three forms depending on temperature and water quality: shell species like barnacles and mussels, weed like seaweed, and slime from algae. Fouling causes increased fuel consumption and resistance, potentially reducing speed by 10% and increasing fuel use by 40%. It also requires dry docking for removal, incurring cleaning costs and lost time. The document examines responsibility for fouling under charter agreements and discusses express contract clauses addressing fouling issues.
Kris Buytaert discusses the Devops movement and how bringing developers and operations teams together earlier improves systems. He advocates for automation throughout the development and deployment process, from version control and testing to configuration management, monitoring, and upgrades. Adopting a Devops culture and practices like continuous integration, delivery, and deployment can help teams deploy better systems faster at lower risk.
The document discusses the International Convention on Load Lines of 1966 adopted by IMO. It establishes limitations on ship draft through requirements for freeboard assignments. This ensures adequate stability and avoids hull stress from overloading. Freeboards consider subdivision and damage stability calculations. The convention applies to cargo and passenger ships on international voyages, with exemptions. It specifies surveys and certificates to verify ships meet requirements and markings to indicate assigned freeboard.
This document discusses watertight integrity and weather tightness on ships. It covers requirements for openings in watertight bulkheads, doors to maintain watertight integrity, access doors and hatches, watertight doors or ramps to internally subdivide cargo spaces, and other closing appliances to ensure watertight integrity. Specific topics covered include requirements for sliding watertight doors, indicators to show if doors are open or closed, reinforcement around openings in bulkheads, and testing of watertight doors.

The document discusses an inspection of cranes on a ship. The inspection found that the hoisting wires of crane numbers 1 and 2 had suffered damage from excessive wear and broken strands. This was likely due to careless operation by the crane operator when discharging cargo, as the wires showed signs of frequent scraping against hatch coamings. Photographs documented the damaged wires and scraping marks on the hatches.
The document reports on damage assessments conducted by the Viet-Nhan Agriculture – Industry – Marine Control Inspection Corporation at Lotus Port and Gemadept Dung Quat International Port following ship collisions. Key findings include damage to wharf structures such as reinforced concrete beams and barriers, cracking and leakage in wharf decks, and damage to fenders, cranes and other equipment from the impacts. Underwater inspections by divers were also carried out to evaluate submerged damage.
