Adopting Multi-Cloud Services with ConfidenceKevin Hakanson
In transitioning to multi-cloud, IT organizations have the same responsibility to provide quality service and operational security yet have a much greater need to understand how to efficiently govern and manage these disparate cloud services.
In this session, we will examine some key patterns and models taken from a Cloud Adoption Framework through a multi-cloud lens. The presentation will include a mixture of high-level guidance, examples where vocabulary and terminology differ, and opinions on when to utilize cloud-agnostic vs cloud-native technologies for strategic decisions.
Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how to implement a Cloud Adoption Framework across multiple clouds and a higher level of confidence in their multi-cloud adoption plans.
The ability to deliver software is no longer a differentiator. In fact, it is a basic requirement for survival. Companies that embrace cloud native patterns of software delivery will survive; companies that don’t - will not.
In this webinar, we will:
- Look at the common patterns that distinguish cloud native companies and the architectures that they employ.
- Discover that an opinionated platform, one that stretches from the infrastructure all the way to the application framework, rather than ad-hoc automation, is an essential component to an enterprise's cloud native journey.
- Show that the combination of Pivotal Cloud Foundry and Spring is the complete cloud native platform.

RightScale Webinar: Learn about the RightScale Cloud Appliance for vSphereRightScale
Companies are searching for a way to transform their existing investments in virtualization to provide the benefits of private cloud services. For many organizations, this means leveraging VMware® vSphere® environments and expertise. However, vSphere and other virtualized environments are not equivalent to cloud. They lack key cloud capabilities, and access is typically limited to a small number of trained administrators. IT teams want to deliver ‘true’ cloud services across public and virtualized resource pools.
To help you cloudify your virtualized environments, RightScale has developed a lightweight virtual software appliance that integrates RightScale Cloud Portfolio Management and the VMware vSphere virtualization platform. With this appliance, IT teams can leverage RightScale as a single pane of glass to manage applications across vSphere environments as well as leading public and private clouds. In this webinar we focus how you can:
• Enhance vSphere with cloud-like capabilities
• Provide self-service access across cloud and virtualized environments
• Create portable workloads that operate across vSphere and public and private clouds
• Access unified management, reporting and analytics across public clouds and virtualized environments
With the RightScale Cloud Appliance, you can ‘cloudify’ your vSphere environments for increased agility while reducing vendor lock-in.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Let’s double click on what it means to helping a customer transform to hybrid infrastructure.
One common problem (though not the only one) we hear from customers is like this:
Customer has 10K or more apps existing in their CMDB, running on over 10K servers.
This is poorly utilized, high cost, not agile at all.
They want something cheaper, more responsive to their business needs, while still maintaining the controls that they need.
What they want is a partner who can come in and evaluate and recommend next steps—
What apps can be scrapped or taken to SaaS?
Which traditional apps shouldn’t be moved at all but should be industrialized onto newer converged infra to lower costs
Which apps should move to the cloud but need to stay on prem
And for those apps that can get to the public cloud where security isn’t a big concern, then please help me do this.
And give me common managed services—integrated chargeback and billing, security auditing, and so on.
**These numbers are representative of what one customer might achieve, but this isn’t necessarily what all customers will have. **
This is a fair representation of a type of customer problem that customers have when they talk about transforming to hybrid infrastructure.
Add end-user persona
Broker – move aggregate up, remove integration, add supplier management
Policies – across all boxes
Fulfillment – orchestrate
Autoamte is everywhere, app models doesn’t fit
App pipline
Add SLAs
To effectively match applications and workloads to the best infrastructure that fits their requirements, customers need a hybrid infrastructure.
The potential of Hybrid Infrastructure
Deliver “always on” services
Auto-scale to maximize your businesses growth potential
Empower developers to build apps and microservices fast
Move from large, monolithic applications
Reduce operational cost with automation
Reduce CapEx with the appropriate resource utilization
Transform Culture: More Dev, less Ops
