How To Get Started
Start off with defining a “Project” file -
When VeriFire Tools is started you begin with a blank worksheet area.
The user determines whether it initiates an offline or online session.
For offline sessions a new concept is introduced called a “Project” to
encapsulate an entire site's node population within one database file.
The user can select: or from the Ribbon command under “Project
Services”.
In selecting “Create Project” there are three possible choices to proceed:
1. Create a new project file from
scratch by selecting the “New
Project” options.
2. Create a new version of an
existing project file by selecting
“New Version from Existing
Project” option - (Explain about
project versioning a little later).
3. Importing a version of VeriFire
Tools prior to the current release
by selecting “Import Database”.
3. 3
How To Get Started
Choice 1 - Selecting “New Project” for “1st time users” or users who wishes to
create another project file -
Define the Name of the project, starting Version number, stored Location, optional
Password, project Description, and Site Information.
The “Next” button navigates to the node population screen to select the various panel
types and peripherals that will populate a network instead of one at a time:
Here you select the Node Address, Panel Type, Label, and Database Version.
When completed, a “Panel Properties” and “Panel Summary” screen will be displayed
and the Database Session tree will populate with the selected nodes.
“Panel Properties” indicates the settings of the Project itself and “Panel Summary”
displays the node list with the ability to add or delete panels.
Now you are ready to edit your project:

Choice 2 - Selecting “New Version from Existing Project” -
Importing an earlier version of the VeriFire Tools database into a new project file.
This is whether it is a Pre-NextGen version or an earlier version of NextGen.
Notice in the “Sample Project” we have the initial starting version (usually 1.0) and
derived subsequent versions.
Subsequent versions are shown indented to the original.
Notice that each project version has a creation and modified timestamp column.
• By default, this dialog will sort on the
modified timestamp column from latest to
earliest dates. This provides a “most recent
used project” or MRU feature automatically.
• All columns can be sorted with a
indicator showing an ascending or
descending order.
• Once a version is selected for branching
then “Next” navigates to a screen similar to
“New Project” keeping the project name the
same but allowing modifications of
everything else.

Choice 3 - Selecting “Import Database” -
This option is used whether you are importing a pre-NextGen VeriFire Tools or an
earlier NextGen version database file:
Here you need to select the location of the source database and the new project
name.
A backup database of the original will automatically be generated.
In NextGen VeriFire Tools database files names are based on Microsoft Access 2007
file format, so they will have a *.accdb file extension as opposed to a *.mdb Access 97
extension.

Selecting “Open Project” -
This Ribbon command allows you to open up existing Project files compatible with
this version of Tools:
Again the column labels and its sorting features are the same layout as “New Version
from Existing Project”.

How To Get Started
After the Project is established from any of the above methods the end
result is the same with a populated “Database Session” node tree and the
“Edit Session Summary” tab displayed in the Service window.

Other options in “Project Operations” –
“Delete Project” command allows for the deletion of a particular project version in
two ways:
1) You can simple remove that project version from the “Master” project directory structure in
which case it can be imported back at a later time, or
2) It can be completely deleted from the hard drive without recovery.
You are not able to delete a project version if that is the current edit session. You must close
that project first.
Deleting a parent version will not affect the subsequent versions that were derived.

Other options in “Project Operations” (continued) –
“Close Project” command terminates the current edit session and resets the
database session tree and service window for offline services:
“Save Project As…” command allows you to save a particular version of a project to an
entirely new project filename:
Lastly, the “Save” command simple mimics the Save button in all service forms and
commits to the edit session/database all pending changes:
A confirmation popup will appear to validate
the newly created project along with its
name and location.

Online Session activities –
The same three online session options are still available in this version of VeriFire Tools by
clicking on the each of the QAT icons below:
For Local online network session:
For Remote network sessions and Web Server hardware version 3.0 or greater:
For legacy Web Server hardware less than version 3.0:
