Get the best possible insurance claim
These days we know that insurance companies aren't so happy to pay out on  your 
claims, so you need to make sure that before you put in a claim, you dot the I's and 
cross the T's.
Here is a list of things that you should consider when 
putting in your insurance claim.

1. Check your insurance policy

You need to make sure that you are covered for the claim 
that you are about to make.  Check the fine print and then 
check it again.  You will find that there are clauses and 
loopholes that will stop them from paying out, so make 
sure that you are covered before going through the 
rigmarole of claiming only to be told, that you don't have 
a case.

2. Stick to the rules

               The last thing your insurance company wants is for 
               you to submit your claim in your way.  If they want 
               you to ring to start the ball rolling on the claim, then 
               ring them.  If they want you to fill in a 10 page 
               document, then fill in the 10 page document.  Start 
               the process off in the right way and they are more 
               likely to listen to your problem.

               3. Don't bend the truth

               Insurance companies know when you are lying ‐ it is 
               their job to spot and so are extremely vigilant.  Even 
               what you see as a simple exaggeration, can land you 
               in hot water, so don't be tempted to lie by adding 
               your computer to the list.  Even if just a small part of 
               the claim is false, then the whole claims can be 
               rejected.

4. Information overload

               Provide as much information as possible to ensure 
               that your claim is taken seriously.  Insurers like to 
               have as much information as possible, mainly 
               because they are looking for reasons to reject the 
               claim, so be precise and helpful.

               5. Keep in touch

               Keep in touch with your insurance company, as they 
               will be doing all that they can to drag their feet as 
               delaying payments, boosts their profits.  With this in 
               mind, make sure that you are chasing your insurer 
               whenever you feel that they are stalling.

6. Money for nothing

               Don't expect to make money on your claim.  The 
               insurance payout should put you back in the same 
               position that you were in prior to the burglary, fire or 
               flood.  It is worth remembering that you will have an 
               excess to pay and therefore could in fact work out 
               worse off.

               7. Learn to complain

               If you are not happy, then complain. But there is an 
               art to it and you should ask for a copy for their 
               complaints  procedure.  Follow this as the guild lines 
               have set out and mention that you intend to go to 
               the FOS ‐ Financial Ombudsman Service.

8. Get a professional in

               Before you get to number 7, and if you are struggling 
               or the thought of dealing with your insurance 
               company if making you feel as sick as the day the 
               disaster struck, then you should talk to a 
               professional.  Loss Assessors work for you, only you, 
               and help to expedite your claim.  An insurance 
               company will employ a loss adjuster, so why 
               shouldn't you have a professional on your side as 
               well.

               It is often advantageous to employ a loss assessor if 
               your claim is significantly large.  A loss assessor will 
               take a small percentage of the pay out, so it is at 
               their benefit to get you the best possible settlement 
               and they will also take the pressure off you in making 
               the claim.
