In life we
repeatedly find ourselves searching for the meaning
of our existence. We experience both moments of clarity as well as
moments of ambiguity based on our state of mind and current circumstances. Some
individuals are fortunate enough to have a deep knowing with regard to their primary purpose
by the age of 5 and never deter from it. The rest of us discover our passion and core strengths along a
meandering and rather adventurous path to self-discovery. What makes you happy? What are you passionate
about? What are you really good at? Who are you becoming? These are the ordinary questions we all ask ourselves,
but how do we find the answers in a meaningful and authentic way?
After some time spent in reflection and research, we thought to compile a quick guide to help you unlock your greatness and catalyse
your personal journey to self-discovery and fulfilment. We will explore these insights in the coming weeks and include a handful of links
and resources that you can check out by yourself. Don’t just take it from us. Conduct your own research and make up your own mind.
We would like to share with you the first of 18 key insights on unlocking your greatness within:
1. Discover your greatness and shift your perception
You can only start discovering your personal greatness by applying an inquiring attitude toward your life and the world around you. If you are happy
with the status quo and you don’t like to be challenged, then this may not be for you and that’s also okay.
However, if you are eager to explore and develop your inner power, one of the pre-requisites is to adopt an open mindset, with a willingness to change
how you lead your life as your self-awareness and comprehension of your most important values deepen. This process includes constant re-evaluation of:
• The relationships in your life
• The daily activities you choose to engage in or not
• The direction that your life is taking
• Your state of mind and heart
• Cognisance of the aspects of yourself that you want to celebrate, let go of,
or transform into something greater.
As you take the steps toward becoming the individual you were born to be, you will start encountering challenges that will test your commitment to
your quest, whilst providing you with a myriad of incredible lessons that serve your own evolution. You have to be ready to acknowledge the lesson that
will be presented to you through each challenge so that it is removed from your life for good. If you don't take the lesson, the same challenge will keep
coming back, getting louder and often in “painful” ways to get your attention. For example, when faced with a problem, in order to overcome it, it is vital
to change one’s perception about it and follow through with the supportive actions in order to affect a new, more benevolent reality. In essence, what often
changes is you, not the problem. This pro-active approach is what shifts your relationship to the “problem” or obstacle. Until you grasp the lesson, you
cannot accelerate into your next level of growth because your readiness is what determines how much of your internal power you can experience in
your current reality.
As your greatness intensifies you will begin uncovering many rewards along your path, as well as an unprecedented state of renewal. More
lessons will naturally be presented to you at each new level of growth, as this cycle of personal alchemy never ends.As you harmonise with
your inner greatness and maintain an awareness of your perception at any given moment, your ability to positively influence your reality
and co-create what you want amplifies, enabling you to lead an increasingly fulfilled, exciting and ever expanding life experience.
“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will” – Mahatma Gandhi
“Be the change you want to see in the world” – Mahatma Ghandi
We look forward to possibly receiving your comments and connecting with you as we continue to explore together.
How to UNLOCK your GREATNESS within
In previous weeks we have explored some
of the benefits of and tactics used for discovering and advancing
our personal power. We discussed the “greatness” mind-set and why it is
necessary for creating sustainable fulfilment and winning strategies. Today we’d like to
share with you some exciting thoughts on the second essential trait that one must harness in
order to thrive.
2. Know Thyself
Self-knowledge could be described as the most important piece of the puzzle. One of the reasons most often postulated
for our existence is driving need to understand and know ourselves intimately. Actively engaging in the cycle of self-exploration,
self-awareness, self-discovery or re-creation is a step toward self-actualisation.Without self-knowledge we are ill-equipped to
determine what we want, to create a meaningful life, to take advantage of our innate abilities, to visualise and to achieve our dreams.
In the same breath, if we are not able to lead our own lives with clarity, vision and determination, how can we collaborate with or lead
others effectively?
Self-knowledge is accumulated throughout our lives. The degree of self-knowledge one acquires is generally equivalent to the amount of time and
effort one invests in self-development, through learning, taking risks, venturing into the unknown, adapting, developing new relationships and being
creative.
“Wherever we go, whatever we do, Self is the sole subject we study and learn.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“He who knows others is learned; He who knows himself is wise.” – Lao-tzu,Tao te Ching (6th Century B.C)
According to the ‘Johari window,’ a technique created by psychologists Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham in 1955, and used to help people better
understand their relationship with self and with others; the areas and perspectives of self-knowledge can be divided into four regions, namely:
1. Open area, open self, free area, free self, or ‘the arena’:
• What is known by the person about him/herself and is also known by others
2. Blind area, blind self, or ‘blind spot’:
• What is unknown by the person about him/herself but which others know
3. Hidden area, hidden self, avoided area, avoided self or ‘façade’:
• What the person knows about him/herself that others do not know
4. Unknown area or unknown self:
• What is unknown by the person about him/herself and is also unknown by others
These regions of self-knowledge encompass behaviour, attitude, feelings, emotion, knowledge, experience, skills, latent abilities, views and character
traits. The concept of self-knowledge is extremely broad and cannot be exhaustively reviewed in one conversation. Self-knowledge covers other
significant aspects such as self-concept, self-identity, self-awareness, self-regulation and so on. It is useful to gauge how deep your self-knowledge
is in all these areas, by working with supportive people that you can trust to give you honest feedback; by disclosing relevant information at your
discretion and by observing your own responses to the experiences that unfold in your life every day. None of these four self-knowledge aspects
are inherently bad or good; however, the ideal is to expand the “open area” or “open Self,” as it reinforces authenticity, transparency, self-confidence,
integrity, trust, cooperation, openness, credibility, productivity and other highly sought qualities in relationships, teams and leadership.
It is worth noting that ultimately who we believe we are, is the kind of “person” we project into the world around us, and this
becomes the “personality” that others perceive. If there is something we want to alter in our lives, relationships or environment,
then the first port of call is to be aware of our dominant focus, our perceptions, and to shed light on the elements that first ought
to be transformed from within, before the positive effects are made visible in our daily reality.
"Our greatness is being able to remake ourselves" - Mahatma Gandhi
Embarking on the process of gathering self-knowledge allows you to embrace all that you are, where you neither rebel
nor seek approval from anything or anyone outside yourself; where you make no excuses for being who you are. When
you are able to live your truth, comfortably and powerfully, then you have aligned fully with the greatness within you.
Wanting something is not enough. One has to become the thing that one desires in order to create it. As with most
things in life, we first have to see it in our mind and hearts and then adapt ourselves to the vision through our actions,
before it takes shape in our physical reality.

How to UNLOCK your GREATNESS within
Your greatness is not something that can be bought,
taught, borrowed or stolen. Your greatness is your innate capacity to
uniquely and positively influence your life and the world around you; by deepening your
awareness of your internal and external realities; by examining or accepting a new perspective; or
by creating something new that aligns with your new intention. To be effective, this entails being keenly
mindful about what your needs, wants and strengths are; unpacking what self-actualisation or success means to
you, in addition to recognising opportunities for growth in your life and environment. This boundless venture of
exploration and discovery can be articulated as:
3. Becoming Self Aware
Self-awareness is a vital aid for unlocking your greatness. When you are not present or aware of what is going on in your life in the
moment, it becomes impossible to know where you are in relation to where you want to be; or to have clarity about what you want,
in relation to what you don’t want. A holistic approach to success provides you with an opportunity to conduct an honest personal audit
and from this vantage point you become better equipped to create winning solutions and celebrate your life. Self-awareness audit models1
and 2 are some of numerous samples that you can use to expand your self-awareness.
Self-audit model 1 – illustrates the importance of reviewing and being aware of all aspects of your life, including your values, beliefs, goals, skills, needs,
supportive factors, as well as your micro and macro environments, in order to frame your definition of success and how you go about creating it, in
a way that aligns with your own values and best intentions.
Self-audit model 2 – is a deeper exploration of your diverse needs, according to Maslow’s hierarchy; what they are and how you prioritise
them. This awareness enables you to have a clear picture of where you are relative to meeting these needs and whether you identify with any of
them or not. This experiment allows you the opportunity to re-invent the aspects of your life that are ready for renewal and to change what is no
longer working, by simply becoming aware and beginning to live your passion.
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have
come alive." – Howard Thurman
Becoming self-aware can be likened to a person who has come alive. A person that has come alive is far more effective, motivated and
successful at achieving his or her goals. Karpman’s Dreaded Drama Triangle and David Emerald’s Empowered Dynamic
are additional self-awareness audit models that are representative of the emotional and mental states that fuel and impact on the roles we
choose to play every day, which in turn inform our experiences. Both paradigms further demonstrate how these emotional and mental states
powerfully affect the quality of our relationships. Emerald’s model inspires us to emerge out of a “victim-persecutor-rescuer” paradigm
toward a more autonomous and symbiotic “creator-challenger-coach” outlook. Developing self-awareness amplifies your capacity to
significantly advance your knowledge, wisdom and understanding, empowering you to establish a more fulfilled life experience.

If there is something we want to alter in our lives, relationships or environment, then the first port of call is to be aware of our dominant focus, our perceptions, and to shed light on the elements that first ought to be transformed from within, before the positive effects are made visible in our daily reality. "Our greatness is being able to remake ourselves" - Mahatma Gandhi Embarking on the process of gathering self-knowledge allows you to embrace all that you are, where you neither rebel nor seek approval from anything or anyone outside yourself; where you make no excuses for being who you are. When you are able to live your truth, comfortably and powerfully, then you have aligned fully with the greatness within you. Wanting something is not enough. One has to become the thing that one desires in order to create it. As with most things in life, we first have to see it in our mind and hearts and then adapt ourselves to the vision through our actions, before it takes shape in our physical reality. • 3. Your greatness is not something that can be bought, taught, borrowed or stolen. Your greatness is your innate capacity to uniquely and positively influence your life and the world around you; by deepening your awareness of your internal and external realities; by examining or accepting a new perspective; or by creating something new that aligns with your new intention. To be effective, this entails being keenly mindful about what your needs, wants and strengths are; unpacking what self-actualisation or success means to you, in addition to recognising opportunities for growth in your life and environment. This boundless venture of exploration and discovery can be articulated as: 3. Becoming Self Aware Self-awareness is a vital aid for unlocking your greatness. When you are not present or aware of what is going on in your life in the moment, it becomes impossible to know where you are in relation to where you want to be; or to have clarity about what you want, in relation to what you don’t want. A holistic approach to success provides you with an opportunity to conduct an honest personal audit and from this vantage point you become better equipped to create winning solutions and celebrate your life. Self-awareness audit models1 and 2 are some of numerous samples that you can use to expand your self-awareness. Self-audit model 1 – illustrates the importance of reviewing and being aware of all aspects of your life, including your values, beliefs, goals, skills, needs, supportive factors, as well as your micro and macro environments, in order to frame your definition of success and how you go about creating it, in a way that aligns with your own values and best intentions. Self-audit model 2 – is a deeper exploration of your diverse needs, according to Maslow’s hierarchy; what they are and how you prioritise them. This awareness enables you to have a clear picture of where you are relative to meeting these needs and whether you identify with any of them or not. This experiment allows you the opportunity to re-invent the aspects of your life that are ready for renewal and to change what is no longer working, by simply becoming aware and beginning to live your passion. "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." – Howard Thurman Becoming self-aware can be likened to a person who has come alive. A person that has come alive is far more effective, motivated and successful at achieving his or her goals. Karpman’s Dreaded Drama Triangle and David Emerald’s Empowered Dynamic are additional self-awareness audit models that are representative of the emotional and mental states that fuel and impact on the roles we choose to play every day, which in turn inform our experiences. Both paradigms further demonstrate how these emotional and mental states powerfully affect the quality of our relationships. Emerald’s model inspires us to emerge out of a “victim-persecutor-rescuer” paradigm toward a more autonomous and symbiotic “creator-challenger-coach” outlook. Developing self-awareness amplifies your capacity to significantly advance your knowledge, wisdom and understanding, empowering you to establish a more fulfilled life experience.
