This document provides instructions for tying a double Windsor knot tie. It is a 10 step process that begins by popping the shirt collar and placing the tie around the neck with the wider end hanging about a foot below. The steps involve crossing, wrapping, and pulling the wider side of the tie through loops around and behind the neck to create a symmetrical knot. The final steps tighten and adjust the knot by alternately pulling and sliding it up against the throat until it is tied.

2. Ignore that the tie is already in
place & focus on the collar
1.) Pop your shirt collar up.
3. 2.) Place the tie around your
neck, tag-side down
against your chest
Pull the wider end
down so that the
thinner end hangs
about a foot from the
neck
5. 4.) Take the wider end up,
behind, and through
the back of the neck
loop that has been
established from this
step
Pull the wider end all
the way through the
neck loop and down
– laying it on top of
your hand
6. 5.) Take the wider side and
wrap it around the
back of the entire knot
(in the same
direction), and take it
through the front of
the neck loop
Pull straight down,
flat against the back
of your knot
7. :: TIME OUT ::
Here, you should have the
inside of your triangle-
shaped knot if done
correctly. This is a great
point to shape the knot
into the triangle you want
to see as an end result
8. 6.) Wrap the wider end
around the front of the
knot and to the back,
completely covering
the inside knot
9. 7.) Once the wider side is
back behind the knot,
bring it up and
through the back of
the neck loop
Pull it down flat
against the front of
the covered knot
10. 8.) Bring the wider side up
and pull it through the
space between the
knot’s front cover and
the front of the knot
itself
11. 9.) Begin a repetitive and
alternating action of
pulling the wider end
downward and sliding
the knot towards your
throat
Be sure the thinner
side remains hidden
behind the wider
side
12. 10.) Pull your collar down,
adjust as needed,
and admire your
work.
14. If you want more length in your finished look,
start completely over by pulling the neck loop
apart until the knot falls out. This time, reduce
the length of the thinner side, adding more length
to the wider side.
If you still don’t get your desired length, you may
need to purchase a longer tie.
