This document provides advice for resigning from a job professionally. It recommends:
- Informing your manager face-to-face before rumors spread
- Following up with a formal resignation letter for documentation
- Giving proper notice out of respect for your current employer
- Continuing good work and leaving on a positive note
- Avoiding rumors and keeping in touch with colleagues after leaving
2. It is not a final divorce
you think to quick for some reason or got new opportunity
elsewhere, Well !!even though, you should leave by a smile.
Never leave with bad image even if you are leaving with bad
experience and negative memories especially with people
inside that Organization.
Remember, people move and change but the Organization will
still exists ( Most of them!!).
Therefore, put in your mind it is you personal brand that should
be always shine positively & you never know where your ship
will land or who you will be your future boss.
3. Lets your Manager first to know
Try to avoid the rumors, so if you already decided. Be
brave enough and talk to your manager or immediate
supervisor directly.
Spread the words between colleagues before the
manager knows may cause a lot of misunderstanding
and misperception which you can easy avoid.
4. Face-Face
You brave enough to inform you manager, be more
brave and talk to him or her face-face.
Avoid Email or Test message or not even social media
like message him or in twitter or facebook.
Trust me, they if are upset from you leaving them, but
they will really appreciate the fact that recognize your
importance in your decision and you personality
attached this decision to their knowledge.
5. Getting more real
This is the step where you want to document the
process so far, so after the face-face discussion, you
should then email your resignation letter or handle it to
the manager with acknowledgement from her or his
end.
You never know, it is not about trust
only, but, sometimes, there is a need
to document things that will have
direct impact in your career and personal brand.
6. Giving Notice
Don't rush.
New employer is begging you to start as early as possible, but ,
respect your current employee and their need of you for
sometime.
You may be between two fires, but try to balance it as much as
you can.
The time you will invest here and the respect you will show,
someday will be paid back to you.
7. Keep Shining
It never means that you resign, you are out already,
you still getting you paycheck and been paid until last
minute, then you should keep shining and fulfill all the
task and regular activities you used to do in that
particular go. In fact you want to leave a better image,
try even to do extra load in your notice.
8. Try to avoid rumors in the notice
Some people hate the notice since their colleagues will ask them a
lot of " Why". And you will be afraid that some of your answers
will be misinterpreted and rumors will start to fasten all over the
place.
Then:
o Avoid stating any feeling.
o Try to be brief with them.
o Keep always connected to your manager.
o Send Email to all thanking your top management, manager,
and rest of employees ( Don't try to publish unless it is true);
but this will show some positive feelings.
o Keep colleagues in the loop from the first spark.
9. Avoid Bad Marriage for the rest;
Do a exit interview, get it out you here with proper
documentation. Here is the chance to let them know
what is went wrong or how they can improve in some
areas of work.
10. Keep in Touch.
Keep always in touch with your teammates and your
managers. Visit them at work if you can once in
awhile.
Social Media :
It is all about social media those day, choose a
platform that you " famous" at and post photos and few
lines indicating your feeling toward that Organization
and people at it.
11. It is a small world and you will never
know who you will see tomorrow, so your
personal brand will grant it a constant luck in this
very changing world.
Good Luck in your new mission.
