This guide will show you how to install Samsung SSD 860 EVO and use iSumsoft Cloner software to move/migrate Windows 10 to SSD so that you can boot up Windows computer from SSD. 1. A solid state drive (SSD) is a faster alternative to a traditional built-in hard drive. A PC with a

Install an SSD Startup Drive on Desktop Computer
1. Check compatibility
To run an SSD, your computer needs a SATA connection, which is common on modern

uses the older IDE style of connection, it won't work with an SSD.
2. Choose an SSD
You’ll need an SSD that’s the same capacity as your current system drive or larger one. If

how much juice you're using. You can choose an extremely efficient drive like Samsung’s
850 EVO or a faster-but-power-hungry NVMe drive (like, the Samsung 960 EVO). Cheap

Insert the new drive exactly as you found the old one, replacing any screws, clips and

2. Precautions
To protect your new SSD, do not touch the connectors on the drive. Static electricity
can damage the components in your system. To protect your system's components
from static damage during the installation process, It is recommended to wear an
antistatic wrist strap or glove to prevent damage.
Step 1 Before the installation SSD drive, be sure to shut down your computer system
and disconnect the power cord.
Step 2 Remove the computer case, locate and identify the SATA connectors of your
system. Refer to your computer’s manual for information on how to remove the existing
hard drive.

Step 3 SATA cables of the motherboard should be connected to the SATA data and
power connectors on the solid state drive. Please be aware that the L-shaped SATA
connector can only fit in one direction. Before pressing them into position, be sure to
align the SATA plugs and solid state drive connectors properly.

3. Step 4 The Solid State Drive can be securely mounted with the screws provided.

4. Step 5 After the installation is completed, restore the case to the original position
and reconnect the power.

Step 7 Configure the BIOS
A. Power on your computer system normally and follow the on-screen instruction
during boot-up to proceed into the BIOS or CMOS configuration menu.
B. Select the Auto function in the BIOS/CMOS menu that represents the SSD. This will
allow your system to auto-detect the disk.
C. Locate the SATA settings menu and ensure the motherboard SATA ports are enabled.
D. To save new settings and exit the BIOS/CMOS setup menu, choose the Save and Exit
option. Reboot the system or device allowing the changes to take effect.

5. 4. Clone your drive
Install the drive-cloning software - iSumsoft Cloner, run the migration tool and follow
the steps:
- Select the “Copy” option in the left menu.
- Select the drive letter where the operating system is installed (for example, C :).
- Select SSD as the target drive.
- Click Start.
If you are going to install an OS onto the SSD, please first convert your SSD disk to MBR
or GPT – exactly the same as your current system disk, which will allow you to boot your
system effortlessly after cloning your Windows system.
Step 8- Initialize the new SSD
This will clone the contents of your old drive to your new SSD – your files, the Windows
installation and the correct system partitions. Be warned, this is a long, slow process, so
put the kettle on.
