This document proposes a new approach for universities to enhance PhD, MSc, and other post-graduate students' employment prospects. It suggests that business schools embed more distinct job role skills development into their programs. Students would choose a job role to focus on, develop an employment strategy with a career coach, and acquire the core job skills, relationships, certifications, work experience, and mentoring needed for that role. This would help students secure employment and improve the university's rankings, reputation, enrollment, income and graduates' satisfaction. Examples of job roles and their required hard skills are provided, such as research analyst, project manager, business analyst, and data analyst roles.
This mixed methods research surveyed over 1,000 undergraduate students across South-South and Southeast Nigeria to examine the factors that influence their entrepreneurial intentions. Statistical analysis found that personal attitude had the strongest influence on intentions, followed by perceived behavioral control and perceived barriers. Focus groups identified additional influencing factors like practical education and internships. A multi-group analysis found no significant differences between the two regions in the relationships between factors, though qualitative responses indicated some differences in observed entrepreneurial behaviors between the regions. The research provides implications for entrepreneurship education policy and approaches.
This document summarizes a mixed-methods study on the factors that encourage or discourage entrepreneurship among undergraduates in South-South and Southeast Nigeria. The study surveyed 1,129 final year students across 15 universities and 12 faculties. It found that personal attitude, perceived behavioral control, and perceived barriers were key influences on entrepreneurship intentions.
