MONDAY
Wr te your resume. Let your resume conta n one or two
DACs. That s, a "problem" you face, your "approach" and
your pos t ve "solut on" to th s problem. Get feedback from
people n your f eld for the f nal vers on of the art cle.
Try to market yourself. Each of the talks you w ll work w th
should expla n why you are look ng for a job, what you are
a m ng for, and how well you are do ng.
Here's an example of a 10-second talk: "Our company had
to shr nk. That's why I'm look ng for a job n the same
pos t on at another company. I never thought I'd have to
look for a job - I would always score h gh on performance
evaluat ons. But what do you do, t works l ke that." In 30 or
60 second conversat ons, talk about what k nd of job you
are look ng for and prov de ev dence that w ll ncrease your
reputat on.
TUESDAY
Ident fy the 25 employers you would l ke to work w th.
Focus on small and emerg ng compan es n your target
ndustry. Choose from compan es that are at a reasonable
d stance n transportat on. Look for job post ngs from
small compan es on major webs tes. These are employers
on the r way to growth, and there are often permanent job
post ngs.
Reach up to 25 people n your c rcle of fr ends who can
help you f nd work, by ema l or phone. Approach them w th
your 10 or 30-second conversat on and "Do you know any
of these 25 compan es on my l st? Or can you tell me
another alternat ve?" say. If appropr ate, ask them to
nterv ew you to show your CV and cover letter and to test
yourself.
WEDNESDAY
Follow t ps from your c rcle of fr ends and reach out to
employers outs de of your own l st of 25 compan es.
Approach them w th your 30-second conversat on. After
th s stage, l sten more and talk less. Ask quest ons about
the employer's needs. If you have an dea, propose t
del cately as t me and s tuat on d ctate. For example, "As I
was l sten ng to you I real zed that I can help you by do ng
job A. What do you th nk?" If you nfluence the person you
are nterv ew ng, descr be one or two examples of the
HWL.
V s t every 25 employer webs tes. Apply for pos t ons n
your target. Start your cover letter by referr ng to your
reference, f any. Then expla n one by one wh ch features
the employer s look ng for and how you have t. Your goal
s to apply for 10 publ c job post ngs w th n a week.
THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND (IF
NECESSARY) SATURDAY
If 25 compan es on your l st do not have job post ngs on
the r s te, send an ema l addressed to the cha rman of the
board. You can f nd an example here: "I am a successful
manager of operat ons management who was f red dur ng
the downs z ng of ABC company. Your company caught my
attent on because I am exper enced n the f eld where you
work. I l ked the feature / nformat on I saw on your s te
(add deta ls). At the same t me, I have to adm t your
company s 10 m nutes away from my home. I would
apprec ate t f I had the opportun ty to meet w th you or
someone you w ll appo nt and share nformat on on how to
help you."
If you do not hear from the people you contacted w th n a
week, follow up. If necessary, leave a vo cema l and "I am a
manager who was f red dur ng the downs z ng of ABC
company, work ng on operat ons management. I thought
you were busy because I could not hear from you. I
understand. But somet mes th ngs can bo l n between. So
I found t appropr ate to call once. If you are you. Or f you
want someone from your manager to talk to me or g ve me
adv ce on where to go, I would apprec ate a message from
you. My phone number (repeat the number tw ce) Thank
you." say.
You w ll not be able to hear aga n from most of the people
you contact. But usually someth ng reaches you from at
least one place.
One of the employers s cons der ng h r ng, but hasn't taken
the t me to th nk about t. Your message may have
co nc ded w th such a t me. Somet mes an employer
rev ews you, makes your offer and wants to f n sh w th t. If
th s happens, your weekly nvestment and effort s well
back.

  • 2. MONDAY Wr te your resume. Let your resume conta n one or two DACs. That s, a "problem" you face, your "approach" and your pos t ve "solut on" to th s problem. Get feedback from people n your f eld for the f nal vers on of the art cle. Try to market yourself. Each of the talks you w ll work w th should expla n why you are look ng for a job, what you are a m ng for, and how well you are do ng.
  • 3. Here's an example of a 10-second talk: "Our company had to shr nk. That's why I'm look ng for a job n the same pos t on at another company. I never thought I'd have to look for a job - I would always score h gh on performance evaluat ons. But what do you do, t works l ke that." In 30 or 60 second conversat ons, talk about what k nd of job you are look ng for and prov de ev dence that w ll ncrease your reputat on.
  • 4. TUESDAY Ident fy the 25 employers you would l ke to work w th. Focus on small and emerg ng compan es n your target ndustry. Choose from compan es that are at a reasonable d stance n transportat on. Look for job post ngs from small compan es on major webs tes. These are employers on the r way to growth, and there are often permanent job post ngs.
  • 5. Reach up to 25 people n your c rcle of fr ends who can help you f nd work, by ema l or phone. Approach them w th your 10 or 30-second conversat on and "Do you know any of these 25 compan es on my l st? Or can you tell me another alternat ve?" say. If appropr ate, ask them to nterv ew you to show your CV and cover letter and to test yourself.
  • 6. WEDNESDAY Follow t ps from your c rcle of fr ends and reach out to employers outs de of your own l st of 25 compan es. Approach them w th your 30-second conversat on. After th s stage, l sten more and talk less. Ask quest ons about the employer's needs. If you have an dea, propose t del cately as t me and s tuat on d ctate.
