Two examples
The pragmatic
“Technical diversity is killing
us! We need to establish
some standards”
The ambitious
“Our investments are
uncoordinated! We need to
take control over our
transformation.”
10. Biner Securing Progress
The ambitious example
Objective
Documenting an End-to-End Business process encompassing Information, IT Solutions
and Organizations
Consolidating information into one repository
Delivering business value by providing different views of the information
Deliverables
A central repository
User centric views highlighting inefficiencies and dependencies supporting analysis and
decision making
Result
Project was a success – The solution was not
11. Biner Securing Progress
The pragmatic example
Objective
Reducing application landscape complexity by improving use of standard
components
Deliverables
Extending an existing application register
Improving data quality
Creating user centric reports standard deviations and business risk

Editor's Notes
How to Ensure your Architecture Repository Initiative does not Fail
Tobias Ivarsson, Biner Consulting, Sweden
Building on Biner's vast experience providing hands-on guidance and advice on how to adress challanges and pitfalls when developing an architecture repository, this presentation will highlight the critical features that are overlooked and exposing the necesary behavior change that is forgotten.
Topics include:
Defining and limiting the scope of your repository
Bridging the gap between your architecture repository and your solution repositories
Integrating the program architecture in your repository, maintaining the link between different layers of architecture
visualizing how archimate can help you build your repository
An implementation of enterprise architecture into an organization requires three things.
Good people
An practical approach
Somewhere to manage the result
Unless you document your architecture it does not exist
Impact Assessment - When a change initiative begins this is one of the first activities performed to assess the effect of the change by studying existing descriptions of the current situation (if available).
• Transition Planning - When planning the change the target architecture is defined and the gaps highlighted and the relevant transition architectures confirmed in order to identify the necessary implementations projects.
• Project Initiation - In connection with the ongoing planning the architectural descriptions are also used to clarify the scope and set the framework for the implementation projects and their solution architecture to be realised in the Build phase
• Solution Design - During the Build phase the detailed solutions and solution architectures to be developed and realised are finalised
• Solution Deployment - The Build phase is completed by the solutions deployed and the architectural building blocks handed over to the maintenance organization.
Start with the key stakeholders needs and identify the critical issues the architecture library has to answer
Focus on the information and the meta-model. Inspired by ArchiMate
Restrict the scale so that it is possible to guarantee the quality of information
Tailor the views that answers the critical issues, creating a virtuous circle in which the information required by stakeholders is of high quality and that information is stored in a way that allows more questions can be answered
